Dude. Bravo. Once I stopped into this resort I had previously stayed at just cos I wanted their pizza, and I noticed no one questioned me around the pool or when just hanging out. I stayed there all day and felt like I got away with a massive heist or something. But this. This is impressive 😅

The fact that he can blend in with tourists help. He looks like an American tourist. When I was young and growing up in Puerto Rico, we would go as a family to hotels in our island and could not turn a corner without employees looking at your wrist to find the pool band, and even looking at it would ask for your room number. None of the foreign looking kids would ever be questioned. It was very entertaining watching your video.

I think it'd be too hard to do for that long. Even just once is a gamble when you pick a room number. But if it does work, meaning someone is occupying that room, you wouldn't know when they'd be checking out. Maybe if it was just for a night or a few at most, you might be gone before they realize who ordered and come looking. The best would be if you overheard a guest say how long they're staying, that would help.
@Loonypapa
@Loonypapa 2 жыл бұрын
I hate to be a bummer, but the pool furniture he sits in has a useful life of 6 to 8 years, and gets replaced with the money that the actual guests pay to stay there. The pool towels get cleaned in washing machines operated by employees that get paid for by paying guests. Same with the wifi, the gym equipment, the pavement in the employee parking lot, the doors he pulls on to enter the facility, etc. All that money that supports that infrastructure he's using comes from paying guests. The boundary you reference starts at the property line. Where's the ethics in sunning yourself at a resort pool next to someone that paid full freight.

When I was a kid my aunt had a little house in Myrtle Beach. There was a resort that my cousins and I would go to and no one ever questioned it. It was on the beach, so we'd just walk in like we were guests coming back from swimming in the ocean. They had nice pools, a water slide, and lovely shaded hammocks. My cousins would participate in the kids' activities too and even won a few of the little contests. I have such fond memories of that.

I lived in my van for 4 yrs back in the early 90’s…pre-internet, pre-cell, pre-solar, pre anyone ever having heard of stealth camping. At that time, it was just weird. 30 years later it is accepted and you can make a living doing it via YT. BEST 4 years of my life! What I learned was that hotel parking lots were the easiest places to spend the night undisturbed (side note: iPad spellchecker just wanted to change “undisturbed” to “undies turned”). I’d always park under the brightest light in the lot for security. Sometimes, the more obvious you are, the less you are noticed.

I think the guy monitoring the beach was used to locals trying to talk with the ladies. What he didn’t know is I was Puerto Rican from the states and my mom was at the casino in the hotel. I've done something similar but not near as bold, I stayed at a dumpy motel in Negril Jamaica, went to the public beach carrying a collection of different colored rubber wrist bands, I'd scope out the resort to see what color bands people were wearing and boom, free everything. Disclaimer: I did tip every worker that served me everytime I'd get a drink that way is they noticed the fake wrist band it'd be unlikely they'd turn me in. 7 days and countless different resorts, nobody ever suspected a thing.

Quite frankly it's not unlikely that they knew exactly what you were doing after the first couple days, but since you weren't doing anything illegal or otherwise sketchy nor disturbing other guests they just left you alone. They tend to be pretty laid back about most things and prefer to avoid confrontation, preferring to just smile and live and let live. To be brutally honest the fact that you're a gringo in that environment probably helped a good bit as well... Most people may not like to bring it up being a such a sensitive topic with folks nowadays, but I definitely think it's relevant in this situation and played a role in your success to some degree or another. That aside, it did appear to be an overwhelmingly relaxing experience and I'm glad you were able to enjoy yourself. Honestly I could literally see the tension in your eyes/browline and shoulders dissipate with each day. Your entire demeanor seemed to shift a bit and you seemed so much more at ease by the time you were recording the outro, and I mean beyond the fact that you had simply grown comfortable with the circumstances and were no longer fearful of being discovered and reprimanded. Certainly cool to witness firsthand and reassures all of us that you really took advantage of some well deserved and much needed R&R Mav Time. We introverts need our alone time and sufficient psychological/emotional processing time to recharge our souls, as it were. It's as necessary as the air we breathe, so I'm happy that you managed to get yours and in such a fun/unique way that also allowed you to fulfill a long-held personal dream of sorts. Very rad my man, *very* rad indeed...

Reading the comments, so funny how many people have done something similar. Many years ago when I was a freshman at UofA in Tucson, I would ride my small scooter down Speedway Blvd to a nice Radison Resort about 5 miles away. It was a weekend treat - I would saunter in to the pool area and just hang a few hours enjoying the pool and hot tub, always slightly fearful I'd be found out... that was the best. We used to buy a coffee at Starbucks in the am in SanFran and then walk into every Starbucks we passed throughout the day for the free refills because we couldn't afford to buy multiple cups. Also used to do this when living in Hawaii. My friend and I would hang out at the pools of resorts and try to blend in with tourists. When I was in my early 20’s and broke we used to go to Mexico and stay at a super cheap hotel across from a huge resort. Every day we just walked across the street and lounged in their hotel beach chairs, used their pool and snorkel gear. They just assumed we were guests all week. We paid for all food we ordered with a credit card but we definitely weren’t supposed to use their amenities. We went there 4 different years. Paid $45 a night for the cheap hotel that wasn’t even on the water and enjoyed the $250/night hotel amenities.

I discovered that some hotels lack in the security protocol department, sort of speak by accident, when I really needed to use a bathroom and the closest available one was in a hotel, walked in, asked staff for the bathroom, got directions, did my business, when I came out, no one seem to care I was there so I just walked out. Later on, I actually had a conference meeting I had to attend at a different hotel but was totally trashed and tired. So I went to the breakfast area and being morning, they were serving breakfast. So I decided to walk in and act like I belong and got myself a coffee, no one checked on me. So on a different occasion, I felt like I would like to have breakfast, so I walked into a different hotel, at breakfast time, same deal, act like I belong, got in line to grab a plate and stuff, picked a table and started doing rounds filling my spot with what I wanted. After I got everything I needed, sat down, relaxed, had my breakfast and after I was done, picked up my plates and stuff, placed them at the drop off area and walked out. They even wished me a good day. Well... Although I manage to get away with things like that, I haven't done it much and I try to not push my luck.

I totally remember this comment of his! It was kind of disappointing to hear because I didn’t expect it from him. If someone can’t understand why people don’t want to work at terrible places for slave wages, as well as risk their health in a pandemic, then they come from an incredible place of privilege. Plain and simple. This video doesn’t sit well with me either. You nailed it. Hypocrisy at its finest.

@@icep0pp Well, with all THAT being said, my first job was at a restaurant as a prep chef, cook, cashier, waitress, cleaner for $1.65 an hour and I was happy and did a very good job at all of it. It got me started and gave me experience. My second was an accounts receivable clerk for $2.65 an hour and I headed the dept in 4 months. Work ethic. What a concept...Dedication gets rewarded. Starter jobs are smarter jobs if you learn and move on and up. Not meant to be a frickin career...

@@myrongaines5542 that's what wages were in the 70's. I worked as a lifeguard & I think I earned $2.65/hr but it was well above minimum wage & I was 17. I rode the bus to work for 10 cents. It was 25 cents if you were 18 so my dad made me take bus instead of using an available vehicle. Work is to build skills, learn work ethic, and stay out of trouble.

I’ve walked into all inclusive a in Mexico, Bahamas, Costa Rica, Arizona, California, and Panama. Used the pool the beach access, facilities, water slide, bars and restaurants, gyms, towel service and shops. Even better if you are there for many days. The staff get used to you and the service gets better, without having to pay the over night stay.
