Mav, with all that cooking in the cab; you should consider a vent fan out. You could power it when needed with the Jackery and potentially could make for a more comfortable experience when cooking in terms of lowering the moisture build up.

Hey Mav, quick way to caramelize onions is to cook them on medium high heat until they loose their rigidity, then throw in a cup of water and drop the heat to medium low until the water is boiled off. At the end you have perfect caramelized onions in about 15 minutes. The art of Deglazing.

If youre in a place where you can access a microwave, throw the raw onions in for a couple of minutes on high.......then cook them in a pan on the stove with butter on low.....you can also pre cook them in the microwave before you go camping then just caramelize them off the rest of the way once youre ready to eat them.

The new truck setup definitely is 10 times better than the previous one! You can cook inside the truck and chill, and everything seems to be more accessible and easy to reach in this new setup. Also adding a portable TV is really cool! Also I just thought about it... The TV is so small and portable you could probably fit it in any current other camping vehicle you own. It can easily fit into Steve and I presume theres a way setting it up in the Beetle camper. I'm dying to see what you'll come up with the Humvee btw. Keep on the great work!

Mav, love your videos! The reason you don't cry when you cut onions is because you wear contacts! When I am having a "glasses" day and I chop up an onion I cry like a baby. But with contacts, those little pieces of plastic over your eyeball protect you from the onion fumes that cause the crying. This is not scientific at all...I am just a guy who wears contacts too and this has been my experience! Cheers

mav that soup looks awesome, when I was training as a chef this was the first soup I learnt go cook, there's only one thing that you could improve on , more onions, mix the onion up with red and sweet. When caramelizing onions don't add salt in the beginning it makes it hard for the natural sugars to come out. Use a little pinch of sugar and a lid, the lid will cause the onions to steam so they won't char . use a veg speed peeler to get shavings with yourGruyere, it's a cheese that is hard go digest plus it will melt quicker . People cry when cutting onions because they are using a dull knife. Sharp knives stop the crying.

I LOVE your new setup Mav! it's so sick, seems like you have a ton more room without the loss of necessary storage/counter room. I also love the way you say Pre-PRAYED Programming every single add lol! Be careful going drilling into the ceiling of your truck bed you don't want water dripping in especially on some electronics!

The new setup seems to suit ya Mav! Love the mount for your monitor, looking to put my tv on something like that in my camper. I actually spent the day working outside prepping my camper and packing my car to head out to Montana for the summer. Been traveling with my pup out of my suv and filming our adventures over the past couple months. Definitely took inspiration from you.

It actually depends on the type of onion where sweet varieties of onions typically won't have that technical inside of them that causes that reaction cuz it's this one chemical reaction from you splitting the cells that creates a chemical compound that has similar effects to tear gas

Using a sharper knife and not a dull knife also helps. Kinda like our skin, onions membranes tear more when serrated or split with a more blunt object.

You probably don't cry while cutting onions because you wear contacts, protecting and serving as a barrier between your eyes and any fumes.

10:45 Tip: Add a dash of baking soda when caramelizing onions. Raises the pH and quickens the rate of maillard reaction. (edit: meant raises the pH not lowers)

also, wearing contacts helps block the stinging sensation.

@@CaptainGsOceanTurd Completely? What I do works 100% to avoid the onion tears. I have a small battery powered fan I use for camping by OPOLAR. I angle the air stream between the cutting board and my face which blows the vapors away. Total game changer.

Wondering if you've ever considered setting up a small rotating security camera on the outside of your truck? Obviously, you'd have to find the right place for it so it's not really in sight at first glance. Or you could even set it up on the inside of your front windshield at least and get front view 180 footage.
