Can we get a rear double bicep next? It's my favorite pose
@arvidpetersson22524 жыл бұрын
I would give it the ronnie, I always believed that ronnies best pose was his back lat spread, his back double doesn't look hard at all, in fact it looks watery and soft but his back lat is HUGE it looks like muscle, phil or dorian will prob win in the back double, but ronnie wins in this shot. The 2000 shot of his back lat spread is the best picture of a back lat spread ever, the lower half inst dominating but it is still better than everyone, and the Christmas tree there is so picture perfect, he looks wide and hard, just god like in my opinion. THE KING WINS THIS POSE!

I'd go with that 99 pic of Ronnie with crisp lower back and still awesome width and mass on the back. Also I must tell, some of those dudes you've only mentioned for once had insane backs, McMillan in particular, with that at 14:52...I mean damn, with some extra crisp on the lower body this is just Phil's back but wider. Talking about unrealised potential. But as for the final trio, it's: - Dorian for flow and width - Ronnie for upper-lower balance, width, mass and freakiness - Phil for crazy detail, 3D and devastating muscle maturity/conditioning. It's a toss-up, based on personal preference. I'd go with that 99 Coleman picture. That's unmatched.
@Wikingking4 жыл бұрын
@TheLusianPopa it's a matter of personal preference but - with all due respect as I feel you have great knowledge on the topic - I don't really need you to come and tell me how Dorian is superiror to anyone ever :D I just don't find Yates' physique that appealing, he himself is an illusion in poses like the side tricep, he has an awkward tricep muscle but the way he hits it is phenomenal. His back is crazy good, but I find "certain" Ronnie years to be better, Dorian was more consistent though. Also, width is a thing you know, compared to Phil, both are wide and Ronnie WAS wide. Maybe not as wide as Yates or Cutler, but wide. Also, (if the scaling was correct) I've just measured the maximum back width of both and Ronnie had it 2 pixels wider...just a hair and it could be slightly off, but even then, their width was very similar. And if anyone, Dorian had an imbalance in the rear latspread, but it is true that for the sake of the pose and the natural eye it is more preferable to have it top heavy, so this is why it seems that Ronnie's massive lower body throws off balance. In the meanwhile, Yates is very wide upstairs and his legs didn't follow, similar to how Haney looked with smaller legs but very well developed back (calves do though). Has a great taper though and true, Ronnie's lower body developed maybe even more by 2003 than his upper so it didn't help his cause of balancing upper and lower.
@Wikingking4 жыл бұрын
@TheLusianPopa Ok, fine, I like your approach and arguments. But you have to admit that very clash very often around Ronnie and Dorian and it is often that I leave a comment praising Coleman and you come with a reply pointing out how Dorian was better :) And still I insist that for me in particular, that 99 photo of Ronnie (I think it is a post-show studio pic but not sure) tops every other rear lat spread pose ever. It's a personal preference. I understand if someone has Phil's - arguably more complete - hands clasped MM over Kevin's for example, but still, I'd go with Kevin.
@Wikingking4 жыл бұрын
@TheLusianPopa Yes, I understand this is why I said that Yates was more consistent. I'd still pick his front lat over his back, I mean in that pose his superiority over others is more obvious or less debatable imo.

Brother Marx, you forgot Marko Salvolainen. According to me, he had the best Rear Lat Spread.
@rockywaters95924 жыл бұрын
Actually Samir Bannout brought the best back during the early 80s, he's the origin of the term "Christmas tree." Lee Haney did not have a back better and more complete than Samir Bannout, no way!
@rockywaters95924 жыл бұрын
@TheLusianPopa it's not just about width, it's about the whole back. When someone lacks width they can make up for ot in other ways like lat thickness and a V taper, rhomboids and Teres development, all the back muscles make up a lat spread. It would be ignorant to suggest that width alone was the deciding factor in a back lat spread as a front double bicep doesn't just involve the size of one's biceps, its the flow of the whole physique that gets judged.
@rockywaters95924 жыл бұрын
@TheLusianPopa and if Bannout had a Heath kinda back, then why is Phil Heath being compared to Ronnie and Dorian? kind of a contradiction don't you think?

Dwarf Yates? Come on now. We’re all looking at the same photos here. Haney’s width was comparable to Yates at the 91 Olympia, but Dorian was thicker and dryer. And don’t forget that Dorian won the muscularity round in that competition. So dwarf Yates? Nah.

Except he was dwarfing Yates, especially from the waist up. Only thing that kept Dorian i the hunt was his legs. Dorian might have been drier, but no way in hell was he thicker in 91

Phil has to much detail in his back. Phil wins for me.
@dj_m193 жыл бұрын
this comparison right here? maybe so. Still wouldn't give him the win simply because he's the smallest and the least wide. I mean it's a lat spread, width is MANDATORY and he simply hasn't any in comparison to Ronnie and especially Yates. Go watch Yates' 1997 back lat spread, that's lights out.
@lawrencerobinson98703 жыл бұрын
@@dj_m19 but detail counts for something not just width if that was the case the widest guy would win every time which doesn’t happen. You have to remember it’s how much you fill your physique out and you can only do that so much and judges know.
@dj_m193 жыл бұрын
@@lawrencerobinson9870 of course it's important but it comes secondary to width. Is it really, because you are being compared on stage to other bb-ers and their physiques, not how developed you are for your own structure and how filled out you are on your own or else we'd have 10 time Mr. O in names like Lee Priest.
@lawrencerobinson98703 жыл бұрын
@@dj_m19 actually your wrong a person can only open their frame up so much and judges tell bodybuilders all the time after a competition they lost that they need to fill out more get bigger bring up a body part etc. so yea I am right it’s not just one thing it’s the whole physique. The lat spread is how well you can spread your lats with showing the detail in the refinery of the muscle Separation while being proportioned and filling it out with your physique it’s not just one muscle being judged at that one pose it’s the physique with it

Cutler is known to be one of the widest bodybuilders of all time. No surprise that Ronnie is slightly more narrow than he is. However, Dorian in ‘95 is just as wide as Kevin in the rear lat spread meaning Dorian’s width isnt as impressive as Ronnie, who used to be much wider than Kevin in the lat spread. Ronnie’s glutes and hamstrings make dorian look like classic physique, no comparison. As great as Dorian was, he’d be the greatest bodybuilder of all time had Ronnie Coleman not blew up. www.getbig.com/boards/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=588461.0;attach=662516;image
