You get a real idea of how different society was then. People with much less money, choice of food was much less, and there was a real "waste not want not" mentality.

What enables the UK's standard of living to be much higher now than it was in the 1970's? You have far less manufacturing jobs today then the 1970's. Here in the USA our standard of living peaked in 1973. Our standard of living has plummeted since then.

What people need to remember in the 70s freezers were scary. Mary literally had to put them step by step through many housewives who started working in the late 70s could make home made meals and freeze them. It really was a revelation…

Frozen peas currently (sept 2024) 49p a lb at Tesco. That’s not bad inflation (up from 15p) for nearly 50 years if you consider how much wages have gone up.
