Mary invented HIP-HOP/SOUL. Hip-hop/soul is a merge between hard hip-hop beats with soulful vocals and inflections. It's basically what we have now in R&B today. The merge of both genres together. Mary J., Jodeci, SWV, TLC, etc. were the cultivators of that and it started around the New Jack Swing era. Puff was also responsible for bringing this sound and image to mainstream music.

The Queen of Hip Hop Soul This song is from her "What's the 411?" album. She released the same album with every song remixed with features. Songs with Craig Mack, B.I.G and a lot of famous dj's did production on it. All the slow sings were remixed to have hip hop or up tempo beats. You should react to her BET life time achieve award performance where she performs her greatest hits

THANK YOU!!! FINALLY LOL (maybe there is hope for Janet's Alright ft. Heavy D, & En Vogue, & Prince). Jack this song is why Mary is The Queen Of Hip Hop soul, even the 1st single and album, she has the old school vocals with Hip Hop beats by Diddy & other hip hop producers, her beats were much harder during these times. I think this might be the 1st review you did from her 1st album, so my recommendations are all gonna be from that album. 1. Love No Limit (my favorite song by her EVER) 2. You Remind Me (her 1st single) 3. I Don't Wanna Do Anything Else (ft. Kci from Jodeci, who she was dating when they recorded this duet) 4. You Don't Have To Worry
