Essential Tremor is understood to be the most common neurological movement disorder, affecting 1 million people in the UK. Characterised by a rhythmic tremor in the hands and other areas of the body, the condition can be debilitating and severely impact quality of life.
In this video, Mary bravely talks about the impact her tremor has had on her life, and how a single outpatient visit to the Queen Square Imaging Centre has given her a newfound freedom. MRI Guided Focused Ultrasound (or MRgFUS), is a pioneering neurosurgical technique used for the treatment of Essential Tremor. With no incisions or implants required, this new treatment is now being used to bring hope to patients who previously could not manage their symptoms using medication alone.
