I love this technique!!! Thank you for sharing it! I’ve never liked appliqué because the quilt is stiffer! I can see where this would definitely allow the quilt to be more snuggly!!❤

I have stopped using fusible and just cut my pieces out and use glue sticks to adhere them to the backing. Once the quilt is washed and the glue comes out, it is so much softer than any quilt with fusible. It is also much cheaper than buying all that fusible! I do like to have my fabric starched though to help with fraying and stretching.

I’ve never tried it but I love the idea. Thanks for sharing!

I have had an awful time lately with the pelon fusible under wunder. It is not sticking properly. I've been using it for over 30 years and never had a problem with it until the last to bolts. I started using the glue stick method also. I wish they had shown the whole cow quilt.

Thank you! Mary Sue is a great quilter!

I enjoy making appliqued Linus quilts and have found a way to save time. After all the pieces have been fused onto the background, I layer my backing, batting, and top, spray baste, and pin baste it. Next, I applique through all three layers so some of all of the quilting is already done. If there is a lot of unquilted background, I then decide what additional quilting to add to it. You just have to remember to cut your background and batting to the full size of the quilt, not just the appliqued background size. The single fabric or pieced borders are then also stitched on through the layers.

I LOVE her critters. They are so fun and creative. I just recently tried an appliqué method similar to this for the first time. The instructions for the pattern I used called Steam-a-Steam, which is very thinand I put the pattern on my light box with an appliqué pressing sheet on top. Then I placed pieces on the appliqué pressing sheet in the layers. Some I had to do in sections, but Then you can pick up the entire fused pieces in one and place them on the background fabric. It was a fun process, but the steam a seam was contrary at times.

when you said you appliqued on with a blanket stitch you motioned to the whole outer edge. Did you applique every inner piece as well? And when you say you did a blanket stitch, is it close together like 1/8in or further apart like a little less than 1/4 in? I truely wish I had your color sense to put all those fabrics together. Each piece shown was great!
@joyfulandmerryquiltingАй бұрын
Yes - every raw edge was appliqued down. Of course, some of the pieces were underneath the neighboring piece, so there was just one stitching line in the inner pieces. The applique stitch was probably 1/8-1/4". Thanks for watching!

Here's a stupid question…since you are cutting paper with the fusible web on fabric do you use your paper scissors or fabric scissors or do you have scissors just for fusible web?
@joyfulandmerryquiltingАй бұрын
Not stupid at all - that’s a great question. I use my paper scissors when I cut out the paper shapes. When I cut everything out once it’s been fused to fabric I use my scissors with a serrated edge.

Do you needle-turn your sppliques?
@joyfulandmerryquilting19 күн бұрын
I have done needle turn applique in the past - but for this particular project we used fusible webbing and then topstitched with a blanket stitch.

Great project. When drawing on paper side of the fusible, does it need to be reverse imaged since it’s being applied to the back of the chosen fabric
@joyfulandmerryquiltingАй бұрын
It does - but it really doesn't matter. You can reverse the images if you like, but they look great either way. Totally up to you depending on which way you want the animal to face.
