I remember when it was leaked out Mary was doing bad in 2015 and she was ready to die. She was expected to die in 2016 but lived until Jan 2017. Valerie was expected to die in 2012 but she kept pushing and chugging along. I loved her optimism and positive attitude she always had even with the situation over her series on NBC. She stated she was not mad at how it went down but glad she took a stand.

And I think very kind too. I met her once while I staying with a friend (in Valerie's building) on the upper west side. We were both waiting for the elevator (and her daughter was there too - think she was 2 years behind me in hs). I was there visiting NYU campus back in 1999 and Valerie was real kind to me. They were about to make lunch and invited me (cause I mentioned how everything was way expensive there). I'd already eaten, but now I wish I'd said yes - just didn't know a whole lot about her at the time (had maybe seen MTM show couple times). Anyway, it was a nice memory of her (very motherly I thought - and kind), and although her daughter didn't say much, she also seemed nice (and very bright).

RIP Valerie Harper August 30, 2019. I really liked Georgia Engel on Everybody Loves Raymond too. May be also RIP. I was so sad when I heard that Mary Tyler Moore died on January 25, 2017. She was such a HUGE voice for animals and a long-time animal rights activist, had advocated for animal rights for years and supported charities like the ASPCA and Farm Sanctuary. She helped raise awareness about factory farming methods and promoted more compassionate treatment of farm animals Cloris Leachman is a vegetarian as was Mary Tyler Moore. Cloris Leachman also posed clad only in lettuce for a 2009 PETA advertisement. She starred in a comedic 2013 spay and neuter ad for PETA. Betty White is with us still. Also a HUGE advocate for animals as were the co-stars of Golden Girls Beatrice Arthur who was a committed animal rights activist and frequently supported People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals campaigns. Arthur joined PETA in 1987 after a Golden Girls anti-fur episode. Arthur wrote letters, made personal appearances and placed ads against the use of furs, foie gras, and farm animal cruelty by KFC suppliers. Rue McClanahan was an animal welfare advocate and vegetarian. McClanahan was one of the first celebrity supporters of PETA. She supported Alley Cat Allies, a nonprofit advocacy organization dedicated to transforming communities to protect and improve the lives of cats, and also appeared in a public service announcement for the organization in early 2010. RIP BEAUTIFUL STRONG YET COMPASSIONATE WOMEN THAT MADE IT IN TELEVISION !!

The really amazing fact is that of all the regulars on the Mary Tyler Moore Show, Betty White was the oldest, but didn't just live to the oldest age, she outlived every other cast member. Betty White was the oldest of 4 cast members born in the Roaring 20's (1/17/ 1922). The other 3 were Ted Knight (12/7/1923), Cloris Leachman (4/30/1926) and Ed Asner (11/15/1929). The cast as a whole was very long lived. The only two cast members that didn't live to be at least 80 were Ted Knight (62 of cancer) and Georgia Engel (70 unknown causes). White, Leachman, Asner, and Gavin MacLeod lived into their 90's.
