@Luke fillip that’s definitely not true. We’ve seen basically nothing from this version of Joker to assume he knows Bruce is Batman, and Riddler obviously hated Bruce but loved Batman, and thought they were in on things together. He says Bruce is the only one they didn’t get, and he’s clearly disappointed because of this. Why would he say that if he knew Bruce was Batman? Also, Riddler has clearly shown he’s incapable of letting things go. His entire plan revolves around vengeance and getting back at people he thinks wronged him literally 2 decades years ago.

The way the riddler was casually behind the mayor was creepy I jumped a bit when you see him when the tv lights his glasses and the way the bat signal scares criminals with Robert P saying “It’s not a signal it’s a warning” something along those lines and mmmmm the scene where Batman comes from the shadows to beat those group of thugs amazing.

In Arkham Asylum, The Riddler said “You inspired me. You showed me all it takes is fear and a little focused violence.” That was similar to what Batman said in his monologue at the beginning and had the opposite impact of what he was hoping he would have, “When that light hits the sky, it's not just a call- it's a warning. To them. Fear is a tool. They think I'm hiding in the shadows. But I AM the shadows. I wish I could say I'm making a difference, but I don't know.”

If you didn't quite catch it, the Riddler doesn't actually know Bruce is the Batman, he just made it seem like he did. That bomb WAS intended for Bruce, but since Riddler didn't know that he was Batman, it didn't get him. And later on, in the interrogation scene. Riddler says, "Bruce Wayne. He's the only one we didn't get. But we got the rest of them didn't we.", basically, being the lunatic that he is, he thinks he's working with Batman killing the corrupt people (including Bruce, which he doesn't know is Batman). I personally believe that Bruce had the more traumatic childhood, considering that he legit just saw his parents get murdered right in front of him while he was still 8-9. Anywho, I loved this reaction and this movie!

Maroni was in THE DARK KNIGHT - Eric Roberts's character. In the comics, Salvatore Maroni was the one who threw acid in Harvey Dent's face during a cross-examination, creating Two-Face; the courtroom scene early in TDK where Maroni's henchman pulls a gun on Dent was an homage to and twist on that original story.

Some differences that makes this one stand out from the others: Other variants had him with an entire team of scientists who put his gadgets together for him. In here, he makes them himself. I seem to remember in others, Gordon simply slipped him case files, and he did the work on his own time. In here, he's actually working with the cops and going to crime scenes. Not to mention he demonstrates a knowledge of forensics. Also speaks directly to people who claim Batman sucks as a hero because Gotham is still crime ridden: how is he supposed to clean up Gotham when the entire system is corrupted?

In this, I actually felt closer to Batman/Bruce Wayne and cared more about the character than ever before. The Nolan trilogy is fantastic but they had so much story to tell between the three movies that everything had be streamlined and fast paced. Once he was Batman, he was Batman. He had all the gear, wasn’t making mistakes, etc. I loved that they took their time and showed character growth from beginning to end. Nolan's Batman's were always my favorites, but this may end up replacing them. The cinematography, the slow burn storytelling, the scary psychotic intelligence of the Riddler, Batman's development from simply a tool of retribution into a symbol of hope. It's just amazing. My only complaint was the way Pattinson portrays Bruce. He's too similar to how Batman acts/walks/moves. Hopefully we get to see him develop that side of the character more if we get a sequel cause I'd be interested to see his approach to it. Keaton played the power dork who no one would assume was a vigilante and Bale went the narcissist route. Be cool to see another take on it.

@@absanchez777 That scene shows that Batman can have a negative influence on what he stands for. Throughout the movie Batman was a symbol of Vengeance, but that can have a negative effect , as Riddler and his followers were doing all kinds of things in the name of Vengeance, hence “I’m Vengeance”. That’s why batman looked at the goon just processing what he’d just said. Also in the end Batman said vengeance wouldn’t change the past and that he had to become more, a symbol of hope perhaps. Gotham needs hope, not vengeance. And Batman realised that. 👍

I'm just going to say it, Robert Pattinson was awesome as the Batman, Paul Dano was a great brutal crazy Riddler, and Jeffrey Wright who voices the Watcher from MARVEL's WHAT IF? Is a cool commissioner Gordon. Also the Batman suit looks fantastic. Great reaction Mary.

It's a phenomenal film, Grade A all the way. I can understand someone saying it isn't perfect, but the flaws are merely burnt garnishes compared to the meat in this meal. I really love how the film not only gives journey and reason to Batman changing from a vengeance driven vigilante to a hope driven hero, but also showcases the necessity of Bruce Wayne, Thomas Wayne puts up a billion dollar fund to fight crime and poverty in the city and as soon as he dies the corrupt use it as a piggy bank with no oversight. The person who could've given oversight, Bruce wanted nothing to do with anything that had to do with his family and name. If Bruce Wayne had been as active as his father, then he would've been able to discover the same things about Renewal as The Riddler was and easier.

Don’t forget to check out the two animated films “Batman: Mask of the Phantasm” and “World’s Finest: The Batman Superman movie.” Think you can skip ‘em? I’ll give you a few reasons why you can’t: 1.) They’re both great. 2.) “World’s Finest” is what “Dawn of Justice” should have been. 3.) They feature the best Batman ever (Kevin Conroy) and the best Joker ever (Mark Hamill.)

Don't know if you got this but Riddler didn't know that Batman is Bruce Wayne. On that Arkham scene you can see that when we, the audience, and the batman were so sure that he knew Batman's identity and then he says that Bruce Wayne is the only one left to be punished. Also, when that guy said "I'm vengeance", Batman starts to see that he needs be a symbol of hope to the people of Gotham and not a threat.

I agree with Mary about disapproving Riddler and his followers' hostility toward the new mayor. It tragically shows you how cynical Gotham has become. They're unable to grasp the idea that she genuinely wants to help the citizens and not abuse her power. Reminds me of an episode from the TV series Monk (Jon Turturro, who plays Falcone in this movie, is the titular character's brother), featuring Monk befriending an elderly woman. Unfortunately, Monk has been taken advantage of in the past by false friends, he quickly becomes suspicious (it's even foreshadowed in the beginning of the episode, where he rebuke's his assistant's compliments because he thinks she's up to something).

Besides, it was nice to see fragile Batman who still has a lot to improve.

Gotham has always been DC’s New York City, but more of Hell’s Kitchen to be precise, whereas Metropolis represents the business/financial area of Manhattan. Marvel, on the other hand, maintains the names of real cities. For example, Spider-Man is from Queens; Daredevil operates in the “real” Hell’s Kitchen.

This movie originally was set to be made with Ben Affleck as Batman, but he defected the project, which had the script rewritten, and was delayed some years because of that. Pattinson did a good job on this, the first movie I remember seeing Batman as really a detective, with the right mix of punching action because people wants to see the character doing that.

I could still use some more and better detective Batman. He is supposed to be the world's greatest detective, but I'll forgive it since its still Year Two. Honestly, I'm not as huge a fan of the beat them to a pulp Batman that is such a big part of his character now, but it is what it is. I really wish it would have ended with him as Bruce Wayne standing beside the Mayor at the end to symbolize his move from Vengeance to something better.
