You are really going to love Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. Just remember that Nero split the timeline when he went back in time and attacked the U.S.S. Kelvin. All of these characters have had different experiences in this “Kelvin timeline” than they did in the main “Prime timeline”. So the Enterprise’s encounters with Khan and his crew happened differently in that timeline. That’s what Old Spock was referring to when he told Young Spock about the terrible cost.

'Star Trek' was a sci-fi series in the 60's that lasted 3 seasons... Thanks to reruns, 'Star Trek' became an institution on TV, and then after 'Star Wars' became a massive hit in the 70's, they decided to bring back Gene Roddenberry's original 'Star Trek' into a big screen movie in 1979. The first 'Star Trek: the motion picture' featured the original cast - William Shatner as Captain James Kirk, Leonard Nimoy as Mr. Spock... and the others, Dr. McCoy, Uhura, Scotty, Chekov and Sulu. The U.S.S. Enterprise was brought back. The next movie 'Star Trek II: The wrath of Khan' was a huge success in 1982... Khan was brought back as a villain in 'Into Darkness' in 2013. Leonard Nimoy was given more creative input for the 3rd movie 'Star Trek III: The search for Spock' in 1984... and again in 'Star Trek IV: The voyage home'... which was a more dramatic movie as Nimoy brought a more environmental theme of saving the planet. The last 2 movies were 'Star Trek V: The final frontier' (1989) and the final movie w/ the original cast 'Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered country'... Leonard Nimoy played Spock for the last time in this movie before the re-boot 'Star Trek' movie by J.J. Abrams in 2009, where he played an older version of Spock w/ his younger version played by Zachary Quinto. Nimoy appeared for the last time as Spock in 'Into Darkness' before his death in 2015. 'Star Trek: The next generation' series ran for 7 seasons from 1987. It featured an all-new cast w/ Captain Picard as the new commander of an all-new U.S.S. Enterprise. In 1994, the movie 'Star Trek: Generations' featured William Shatner playing James Kirk for the last time... He meets Captain Picard as they take on another adversary. The 'Star Trek: the next generation' cast got 3 more movies - 'Star Trek: First Contact' (1996)... 'Star Trek: Insurrection' (1998)... and 'Star Trek: Nemesis' (2002).

It's an honorable death, to sacrifice yourself to ensure the survival of many, and he knows that, and he knows that it is worth it. It's a very quick, subtle moment, but Zachary Quinto pulled off the moment his emotions shut down perfectly... watch it again and watch his eyes, they're darting around, wide, and then suddenly they're still and you can almost see the logic flowing just behind them. @MysteriousMrL2 жыл бұрын
I agree the alternate timeline opened up a lot of potential, but all they did with Khan was take away any of the context and character relationships that made Wrath of Khan great. If they wanted to be bold they should have looked at the fact that this Khan has no intense drive for revenge against Kirk and this Kirk has never encountered Khan before and developed the plot with that in mind. They could have taken it in some really interesting directions. Instead they just wanted to shortcut straight to archnemesis Khan and swap characters around for a couple of the well-known moments.

Speaking of Benedict Cumberbatch, I highly recommend reacting to THE IMITATION GAME and the recently released THE POWER OF THE DOG. He got Best Actor Oscar nominations for both (I still think he should’ve won for POWER OF THE DOG earlier this year).

For some reason he played Alan Turing in that film as some sort of autistic, antisocial weirdo when he was actually just quite normal most of the time.

So far all they’d seen him do was take a few hits from Kirk. That’s very different from surviving a catastrophic crash and jumping straight down 30 meters.

So glad you're enjoying these films! I grew up with Star Wars (my dad and aunts were the ones who watched Star Trek the Original Series) but I've really grown to love these new incarnations of Star Trek. Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto and the entire cast is just terrific, and I would love it if they made more films.

The look on Chekov's face when Kirk told him to put on a red shirt. 🤣 That was priceless because it was a thing in the original series that every Starfleet officer in a red shirt died. There were a few exceptions, though, such as Uhura, Scotty, Janice Rand and transporter chief Kyle (Kyle was seen later in "Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan", serving as the communications officer aboard the USS Reliant).

FYI in the original series Kirk marries Dr Marcus and they have a child (boy) before separating several years later.

In the Star Trek episode Space Seed, the USS Enterprise finds Khan Noonien Singh(Ricardo Montalban) frozen on a spaceship called the Botany Bay. He tries to take over the Enterprise with Lt. Marla McGivers. Khan reappears in the 1982 film Star Trek II The Wrath of Khan. Kirk had a girlfriend named Janet Wallace. For some reason, Nicholas Meyer changed her name to "Carol Marcus".

A couple of points a lot of people took issue with, the 1st being it was to similar to Wrath of Khan and the second being McCoy effectively cured death in this movie.

The actor who plays as Chekov has died in an accidente in his own house. So sad. It is also necessary to see the 80's movies, to understand the importance of the cry "Khaaaaan"! and how Kirk's death and return to life parallels Spock's
