@ absolutely, and especially around Baltimore. But DOE sets federal curriculum. That is what ppl want out of. Federal overreach of what is taught in schools. Not after school funding (of which I benefitted from), or school lunch programs etc. Those are all wildly popular bipartisan. The entire US Education system including college needs a massive overhaul imo, especially if the US has any interest in being competitive with China in the future. They currently have as many engineers as we have people. And we can’t even teach a graduating 18 year old how to balance a budget, let alone prepare them how to be successful adults. The evidence of the malfeasance by DOE is so rampant this is why there isn’t much vocal blowback on this issue. Ppl are ready to shake things up.
@ScottsGuitar2 күн бұрын
@ the only other point I’ll make is Baltimore has had Zero lack of funding. MD had made it a point to fund these inner city schools. Nothing is changing. That means money isn’t the problem. It’s family/community and curriculum. The family issue is a lost cause because nobody will call that issue out to create a community wide shift out of fear of persecution/racism. If schools taught ppl how to make money (trades, etc) instead of learn useless facts to remember, more ppl may be inclined to learn. Thats really the only variable we can feasibly impact sadly. States can make these shifts Much more nimbly than the bloated DOE. Currently (outside of channeling funding) the only thing the DOE is good at is bankrupting young adults by approving predatory student loans.

The Department of Education, Congress, Md. state government, local government, mayor, Governor and Superintendent, have known for years, and decades as well as most of the media outlets in Baltimore city. They don’t mind reporting the horrible academic that our students have been experienced , but they ( refuse) to report the injustice of local and state government have inflicted terrible and destructive policies that has harmed and destroyed the lives of thousands of inner city students bc it fits their narrative and agenda, that is the media outlets. It’s a freaking joke. The entire school system is not about educating students at all!!!! The math and language arts curriculum is not aligned to any major diagnostic criteria of testing. These curriculum in math and reading will never raise any test scores bc the curriculum is designed to not be used when our kids graduate from school. Majority of the kids are capable of learning, but it is designed for students to fail!! They are not interested in math concepts of addition, subtraction, division, multiplication etc. The concepts of the math standards and skills doesn’t apply to real life situations. None of the math activities will not apply in any situation in many of our students’ lives. Why would a school system continue to implement curriculum that records failing test scores yr after yr. It’s about money!! These students can’t multiply, subtract. divide or add , but the concepts of these skills in this math curriculum will never be used in our students’ lives. They can’t write or have no any idea of the correct usage of grammar. They want our students to form short and long paragraphs without any background knowledge/ information his to write a complete sentence. The system will continue to do an injustice to our students bc they know most parents will never question anything that the system is doing wrong. Ignorance is a billion dollar industry so why do you believe that the local and state government cares about our students. They never will!! They will continue receiving billions of dollars from the government from our students’ failure to succeed in and out of classrooms environment. This is the system’s agenda !! A pipeline from PreK to jail.

You can't solely put this on the parent when schools won't give them all the information. I-ready scores have been purposely hidden from parents and public. So how you can check homework/grades when the schools aren't giving parents the whole story, only the "good" parts. In addition, schools will push kids semester to semester. There was a child who was disabled and unable to go for a semester because the district could not give him the proper resources (i think it was a nurse to support him through the day) so they (him and his mother) had to sit out the entire semester. The school STILL PASSED HIM WITH ATTENDANCE. With not a day he physically attended; not ONE assignment submitted. The mother ans student was ticked. This is WAY LARGER than a "you need to read to your kids" issue when NOT ONE child in in Baltimore schools (elementary i think it is what they looked at the time) passed reading and math.

How is it that you have one of the wealthiest districts and the people of these districts don’t care about the education of their children? These parents spend for clothes, shoes, tech, but don’t care that their kids not know how how to read properly or do basic math. I worked at several banks in different parts of the area and the amount of you teens to young adult didn’t know how to write or spell or do math was INSANE! I will never forget the time a young girl came up to my window to take out money and she could not spell $150… When I asked her what grade was she in she said “I’m only in 12th grade” and I said “you only need to go back to 3rd grade”. It’s sad truly. DMV parents, do better for the kids. The department of education sucks, but also parent are not going to these meetings and making a stink and advocating enough for the kids. You can’t complain if you’re not going to these meeting and speaking out and voting. The system gets fixed when you guys do something about it. Yall the ones with the money, the DOE works for the parents not the other way around. 🤷♀️ (I’m a New Yorker and was raised in NY and ended up going back to NY, we at least have districts with really good education systems even in some bad areas)

Unlike in Asia, parents in the US hardly have any control over their children in high school. This is why only two parents come to a parent-teacher meeting. Teachers have to take a great attempt to get the work done by the students and most of them take the extra mile to do it. Unfortunately, some students are addicted to phones and teachers have to do everything to get them to concentrate without angering the students. Cause forcing too much to get the school work done might lead to another school shooting incident. So teachers who are in schools take such pain to handle students strategically. The other problem is marijuana. Some students are addicted to weeds. If these students are not properly educated, the country will face its consequences after a few decades. Even now, many qualified individuals prefer to select some other job than teaching. Forty percent of the teachers are said to be leaving their job within their first four years to do some other job.
