Back in April of this year, I caught my first ever giant Northern Snakehead. To catch a fish that makes that one look small has been a goal of mine ever since I caught it, and today, that goal was realized. I woke up early on a cloudy July morning and hit the road to meet up with my buddy Sidney from Tactical Fishing Company. We had made plans the day before to spend the day at one of Sid's favorite snakehead fishing spots.
He told me that this particular Maryland snakehead spot is home to some of the biggest fish in the area, so I went into the day full of anticipation, ready for some monster Maryland snakeheads. The plan of attack was topwater, and frogs were our weapon of choice. With the overcast skies and low wind conditions, the conditions were optimal for a great day of snakehead fishing. We got our kayaks launched and fished all day long. By the end of the day, we were tired, sore, and sunburnt, but it was all worth it.

All of my snakeheads were caught on the snakehead outlawz venom frog! They are available at Williamsville store in Delaware.

IMPORTANT NOTE: While Snakeheads are a non-native species, biologists have discovered over the last few years that the damage they cause to the ecosystem is not nearly what was once expected. Many bodies of water containing these fish have successfully adapted to their presence. I encourage you to thoroughly research the data that is out their regarding snakeheads before you make an uninformed comment saying that we should have killed the fish. That being said, everyone is entitled to their opinion regarding these fish. We simply ask that your opinion be formed on actual data and research, not what you heard from a friend or read on facebook.
The body of water that we fished already has a healthy population of snakeheads. Killing a few fish would do absolutely nothing in regards to eradicating the species from that body of water. Instead, you'd be wasting the life of a perfectly good gamefish. Here at Orange 22 Fishing, we encourage you to practice catch and release on all species of fish, including snakeheads. We will continue to do so, and we hope you will do the same as well.
No matter your opinion on this topic, we do thank you for watching our video and supporting our channel!
Tight lines,
Dave and Matt
