Twenty five years ago my company reroofed a bunch (100's) of roofs in this Potomac, Md Neighborhood, so I know the homeowner's roof situation very well . . .
Two layers of 25 year roofing, surprisingly firm 3/8" plywood, limited ventilation -- ready to "tear off" both layers of shingles and put on the good stuff.
We will specify Synthetic Underlayment rather than the usual tarpaper, ridge ventilation using Certainteed's Shingle Vent II system, our signature 6" custom made drip edge with "ice and water shield" integration to eliminate ice dams for the life of the roof, and our "Ten Year No Leak" warranty.
Thirty or Fifty year Certainteed Landmark Architectural Shingles will be a good complement for this home and be very compatible with the 3/8" plywood subroofing. We will also "go green" with the ridge ventilation -- a system that will save energy without using any (like an elecrically powered attic fan or two).
Here's an update: Yes, we DID get the job, and I must say the results were excellent. The customer chose Certainteed's Landmark 30 Architectural Shingles (Color: Colonial Slate -- a great choice), and we installed Air Vent, Inc's Shingle Vent II ridge vent and their brand new EDGE soffit ventilation system.
You can check out the "after" video, which includes details of the EDGE "on the roof" soffit ventilation system here: • New Architectural Roof...
