On Sunday the Y110 was hauling over 100 cars from NS Vardo Yard into the CSX Jamison Yard in Hagerstown, MD. I arrived on scene around 5 hours after this occurred. From what I heard the engines stopped loading just long enough for the slack to roll out down the hill before kicking back in Notch 5 and jolting the entire stretched out consist. I’m sure there were also loads towards the rear. This jolt and having the empties perfectly around the sharp curve caused a stringline to occur. Thankfully no one was Injured, and very little property was damaged, just the side of one caboose. The WM Alco and roof of the office came very close to damages. Cleanup began later that night and was completed a day later.
The very large field adjacent to the yard is where the old Western Maryland roundhouse, shops, and facilities were located. Everything else seen is what remains of the once very bustling yard.
I have been using my drone a bit more recently but have yet to upload those videos, so enjoy one of the first on here! I decided to keep it a long video just to show all the various angles of the incident.
