Mary's critique, explainations exceed the work. Her words are gold to these artists. Always positivity, even about the shockingly morbid, or weak displays sometimes shown. I hope she gets the thanks she deserves.

From an artist who lives in an isolated region, and has no access to galleries, I always look forward to your videos. Love the soft telling of your thoughts about the works. The choices of artists in this video were amazing. Thank you for taking the time to share their works.

Floccinaucinihilipilification describes a lack of imagination among those more intimidated than made curious by art. Mary Lynn, your calm contemplation and depth of reference combined with your grace and charm make touring contemporary art an insightful joy and learning experience. Only the subtle wallpaper music distracts me somewhat from fully observing the visual compositions you share. Thank you!

i'm seeing a comment of the ' anybody can do that' school of thought. someone once attached a public urinal to a gallery wall and it's a strategy that has echoed down art history. sometimes art catches us unawares and we are 'forced into understanding something rather than liking or disliking it. really feels like you're taking us back into the swing of things and to anyone pondering wether to subscribe to this channel, ' it's great!'.
@karln3463Ай бұрын
So many times people seem to use lack of understanding or education to justify what is just poorly created trash. The urinal example was never art, just a dick trying to push the limits of the rules, meant simply to attack the organizers. Only after the fact did the full justification machine start so you can't even rely on "intension" like many do now...

I love your videos I haven’t seen very much that I do not find interesting. I am usually introduced to at least one artist whose work I have not seen before. I was very enthusiastic about the Liza Lou & Gina Beavers shows. Thank-you for doing these videos of exhibitions that someone not in New York at the moment would be able to enjoy.

Thank you. I found it pretty intense. Liza Lou is commended for developing all that work on her own. I like the pieces that are more minimal… seeing them on a screen that is. Mer Schoolwerks pieces I felt had an air of being unfinished. And stepping out with a broader perspective… painting on a printed canvas… from digital… lacks. There are many other ways that I would refine it all. But to each his own. And it may be a bigger discussion… I found the monochromatic sculpture type pieces on the wall a better resolution. Nice work. Much appreciation to you and film crew. Sincerely, Janet

Personally, I find Kline's work to be a bit too self-serious and obvious to share your enthusiasm. The idea that creatives have to "sacrifce" themselves for their career is an inherently self-aggrandizing notion given the fact that art, by nature of its existence in today's world, *must* engage with capitalism. It's also not a terribly deep idea and I don't think the sculptures mine it for any further insights beyond the obvious. Schoolwerth, on the other hand, is dealing with similar themes, but his work plays with them by manipulating the medium itself as a form of critique and conversation that, to me, is far more interesting than Kline's.

Seeing the usual non-nascent philosophical yays and nays in the comments section is always amusing. When it comes to art, I always liked what Peter Schjedahl wrote- "(artists’) most intense function is to make us unknow things that we thought we knew in order to experience joys we can hardly bear." How often that truly happens to any one of us probably rivals viewing a solar eclipse, but I sorta-kinda use it as a benchmark, knowing the art world and all these wonderful galleries abhor a vacuum.

This is art as a product its value is like Bit Coin to be bought and sold among an esoteric group A craftsman could make any of this art THAT'S IT! I will pay a craftsman to create a man in a plastic bag and put my name on it and get in a NY gallery Where are Andy and Marcel when we need them?

Contemporary art is about innovation and paving a new path in the direction of how things can be represented or made. This is not realistic painting so you are doing a disservice to these artists by trying to place them in a box that they don’t belong. Also, I would say that these art works will be historical bench markers of the time in which they are created. The future is coming on. We can resist it which in the end is futile or we can work with it and find ways collaborate with technology. I think these works are very intriguing, expressive and beautiful.

contemporary artists parasitize on the culture of consumption and entertainment, and endless KZbinrs parasitize on artists by continuously filming their wanderings around galleries and taking short breaks to advertise the cafes, restaurants and bistros along the way.

@@larryj1048 contemporary art is a social indulgence given to artists, allowing them not to be forcibly hospitalized. and all because it became profitable to extract big money from it, turning it into an entertainment industry, and not because society has become more tolerant of people with disabilities. in the 20th century, cinema was the entertainment industry, and now it's the turn of contemporary art. no artist has ever made us smarter, kinder or more educated by creating his "research", just as no shamanic practice has made us healthier. if this happened, it was only thanks to placebo, and not dried monkeys)).
