Masada, Israel.
Several shots of the Negev Desert and the Dead Sea at Masada. Archaeologists are seen working on the site of King Herod's palace.
Several people are seen working on plaster reconstructions of the rock dwellings of the Jewish tribe of Zealots, who made their homes in the area around the palace. The reconstructions will be part of an exhibition at London's Royal Festival Hall. A couple are seen looking at the 'dwelling' in the exhibition. A man mounts pieces of woven tweed cloth for a display; commentator says the dry mountain air preserved the cloth and other articles. Ygael Yadin, leader of the archaeology expedition that discovered the items, adds a display of fragments of Masada's Dead Sea Scrolls.
Two men look at model soldiers on a display table in battle position. Several relics in the exhibition are seen: coins, pottery, dice and bowls of date and olive stones.
Back in Masada we see part of a mosaic that has been uncovered from the ground and more shots of the site of the palace and surrounding countryside. A model in the exhibition shows a reconstruction of the battle for the land led by the Romans.
