Cooler’s redemption arc is so different compared to Frieza’s. Frieza’s redemption comes from emotional support from his former nemesis, friends and master to bring out the best of himself. Cooler’s redemption comes from more logical and wise reflection that he is always evolving and learning from his strong foes and his common people of what he needs to be as emperor of his empire.

That's the premise of this whole story after all - and why it's called "what if Cooler _was canonically_ good", not "[...] _turned_ good". Unlike Frieza, who undoubtedly reveled in his role as a tyrannical oppressor, Cooler was more level-headed and pragmatic from the start. His biggest issue is learning that there's another way to accomplish things than he had known. Frieza on the other hand had to first get over his own personality.

You could get Freeza to ally you only at an immediate benefit to him. Cooler was machiavellian, logical, cool headed. Freezer turning good is pure fantasy, Cooler being lenient and cooperative, industrious, achievable

I love how Cooler's growing morality isn't driven by emotion, but by logic. That's a really cool way of "redeeming" him, but it's interesting to wonder if he will ever develop that emotional drive to do good.

There’s an interesting conundrum in ethics. Is Altruism truly selfless if you do it for emotional satisfaction? If you do it to feel good, that’s selfish, not selfless. Conversely, if a good deed is done, do the motivations behind it matter? In every practical, outside measure, the person does good, therefore they are (good). This thinking is why some say Goku is not a good person. Goku trains & fights for the thrill, not out of a moral duty to a principle. Yet, Goku is good. Cooler can contrast Goku, as where Goku is good without intention, Cooler chooses to be good by logically realizing benevolence is the best way to rule. Yet, morally, Goku is obviously “more” good than Goku.

Coolers redemption seems so natural. To give him an opportunity to analyze his path and his own feelings is what makes him different from frieza in the best ways. Why rule with the stick when you can rule with the carrot? Be firm but fair. To improve the lives of whom you rule, so you kingdom prospers. And by extension your live becomes easier and more prosperous Earn the love and loyalty of your people and they will never betray you, even when your must bring down hammer on them.

It’s a small but subtle tease to a potential Civil War in the Empire by a resurrected Frieza and potential King Cold. What do I mean, Commander Sorbet missing the old warmongering empire that preceded this change, he’s calm for now, but once Buu potentially encroaches on The Cooler Empire and Beerus wakes up, the ultimate test for Cooler and the reformed empire will begin. - Revolution C is coming along quite nicely.

This is a rather endearing What If, Masako. I never knew that I could slowly become more and more attached to Cooler, of all DBZ characters and villains, but here we are. It is something of a slow burner, but it is all the better because of it. I hope you keep it coming somewhat regularly, as the only "gripe" I have with your channel, is the waiting time between chapters than can (sometimes) become a little TOO long.

I've wondered how we could have this occur with characters. Goku would probably have to lose everyone. Gohan accepting his Saiyan nature to conquer?
