This man was a genius and creative powerhouse. Why did we never hear about him? We hear so much tripe but not a star such as this! Baffled.

I read that this was tribute to his brother who was stabbed to death. Gives the song a new meaning. Beautiful song.

First comment on this video...hard to imagine just how good a song can make you feel! I remember hearing this every morning on the AM radio morning show in the early 70s. Makes it more poignant knowing he wrote it after losing his brother.

Thank you for your comment. I, like you, listened to this song every day in the late 1960s. This is my favorite song. It is a song that I will continue to listen to.

This came up on the suggestion list from KZbin. I had heard /seen it before but this was a hit song when I was young and had then great appeal, so i checked it out again. What was most striking was this vid has been up for a year and only had 8,400 views. Here is a piece of genuine fusion, very jazz driven, inventive improvisation with fairly complex chord changes - in short, real musicianship. Which requires actual command of instrument and voice, contrasting sharply with "killing", "shredding", "blasting" and such substitutes used by the poorly educated and the unsophisticated trying to get by with emotion without craft. And, of course, it is neglected. Shame, because it is a pretty good draught of education and 9inspiration.

I would bet that most people didn’t even realize that he played the guitar unless you either bought his albums or saw him in concert but as far as I’m concerned the best instrument was his voice
