It was first made at the Leland Motel. It was made for lunch breaks of downtown Springfield’s workers. Don’t knock it til you try it! It’s layered bread/toast, meat (hamburger, chicken, and ham are popular) French fries and cheese sauce...the cheese sauce isn’t just cheese, it’s made with a roux, mustard and other assorted items. Some places put chili theirs and others use different levels of spicy heat! They really are good. I usually get a ponyshoe because they are smaller. I don’t get them very often because they are a lot good and calories.

I’m so sad about the Illinois pick. Why choose an unknown sandwich when you could have gone with Italian beef or a Chicago style hot dog?
@ForeverRememberable3 жыл бұрын
I think the choice made sense kinda. The horseshoe is popular in central and southern Illinois, it's pretty famous in Springfield. I like that for one time in a video about Illinois it's not all about Chicago but showcases the rest of the state. I don't think Chicago style hot dogs are that popular outside of northerner Illinois, I mean I never had one until I went to college and then after that Portillos started getting locations in central Illinois. I think the Italian beef would have been a good option but I like that it was the horseshoe but it is good and is popular in certain parts of the state.

Strange they would highlight a Cuban sandwich in Miami when the Cuban originated in Ybor City, in Tampa, FL over 100 years ago. They've always been pressed for as long as I've lived and I was born, raised and still live in Tampa for almost 64 years. Mayo is not natural to the original Cuban sandwich. The original was roast pork, ham, swiss cheese, pickles and mustard on Cuban bread. Sometimes salami is included because of the Italian population that also lived in Ybor. The best Cuban bread is from La Segunda Central Bakery.

@chouseification2 жыл бұрын
this ^^. Did Hell's Kitchen pay these folks to list them, as that's a "trendy" place, but not a regular haunt unless you live right by it. To even consider calling them the best one is sort of silly in context since they move so few of them compared to the places actually known for the Juicy Lucy (each place spells it a bit different). I'd call out 5-8 as the best, and even their WSP location isn't too bad; Matt's is an odd atmosphere, and their batch ordering system often makes for long waits, plus the place is a real dump. :P

I lived in Hawaii for a long time and I loved those Vietnamese restaurant sandwiches made with fresh french bread and a thick layer of pate followed by big amount of fresh vegetables. Every bite whent CRUNCH with both the bead and the crisp vegetables contributing to the crunch. In contrast, one that I loved as an 18 year old in Virginia Beach, was a tomato based pulled pork on a foot long sub roll topped off with a thick layer of creamy sweet coleslaw. With a little Tabasco on top, every bite just melted in my mouth. I'd think about that sandwich when I woke up to go to work in the morning.

If you are in New Orleans, forget the oysters. Get a roast beef po' boy, or a shrimp po' boy. Be sure the roast beef po' boy comes with gravy and dressed.

Once more the city wins and the rest of New York is forgotten. Buffalo don't have just wings. Beef on Weck. Yes Arby's tried but it's nothing like what you find in Buffalo. Also which state is famous or known for sausage with onions and green peppers? In New Mexico I loved the Stuffed sopapillas. Now can you get those anywhere else? The reason I ask because when I was at a Star Trek convention in the 90s Scotty made it sound like it was the only place. Or maybe he meant they are the best. What about the rest of you did they mess up what is the best in your state?

@@MrSpankee02 I'm from southwestern NY, Olean/ Allegany to be exact. We get forgotten all the time and Buffalo is a big "Melting pot" that they never talk about. And the food from our entier area mmmmm. And the wine, we have some great wine. And Cuba NY use to set the standers for cheese world wide. Now if we could only do something about those Bills

Minnesota has the Juicy Lucy but Hell's Kitchen is inaccurate. The war of who created it first rages on between Matt's in Mpls and the 5/8 Bar in St. Paul. Please know this.

Sorry but the New Mexico choice is only half right, the top state sandwich is the Green Chili Cheeseburger.

From Iowa, Tastees in N Out ,sioux city iowa, best loosemeat. But in Nebraska, I always choose a burger from Bobs bar.the cheesesticks are great, and you need them, because while the burger is delicious, it's barely more than a slider.

And for the record, IMHO the best sandwich of New York is the beef on weck!

Really good, but so many people have no idea what that is, sadly. Even Buffalo Wild Wings dropped the Weck from their locations, even though it is still bw3.

Two fails for me on this list. Illinois is definitely an Italian Beef Sandwich. For New Mexico an Albuquerque Turkey is not a horrible choice, but number 1 has to be a Green Chile Cheeseburger, hands down.

Area native here. Gates is a chain that originated in Kansas City, MISSOURI. Also, Gates didn’t invent burnt ends. Those were invented at a place called Arthur Bryant’s, also in KCMO. Though these days, most places in the metro have better burnt ends than Bryant’s.
