Mike Elias on decision to option Jackson Holliday

Always a tough decision both when to call a player up and when to decide if they’re ready or not. I have complete confidence in Mike Elias and the others that make these decisions. Sometimes the most difficult thing to do is to realize you made a mistake and make the correct choice afterwards. Jackson will be fine and this may actually help him become a better player in the end.

In what way? They don't need ANOTHER lefty bat, and Stowers is supposed to be strictly average on defense so he doesn't bring more to the table than anyone they already have out there. Unless there is a major injury, there does not seem to be a clear path to the majors for Stowers other than as a trade chip. He's on outfield version of Ortiz except that his skill is with the bat and Ortiz is with the glove. But both were/are blocked by the plethora of players at the same position. Come trade deadline, look for Stowers to go in a package to get more arms.

@@t.dubz76 Explain...Stowers missed a catch? That's who we were discussing. Sounds like you are talking about McKenna and implying somehow that Stowers would have made that play. Not only speculation, but also unlikely.

Im not a McKenna fan but he is a decent ML bat with some MLB success and he plays good defense and can hit lefties. I'd like to see Stowere at some point along with some of the others like Mayo. I think next year we will see Mayo and this season when the roster expands Stowers. Jackson did terrible in the bigs. He struck out way too much in Grapefruit and in the 10-games in MLB. He is so small. Once he fills out and grows a little more his power with his hitting ability is going to be fun to watch. Keep fighting and working hard Jackson. Your time is coming.

McKenna makes sense for several reasons (some mentioned here by Elias).

This is why Mike makes the decisions lol. What do you want us to do instead? Give Norby a chance to also fail? This team is trying to win a division and to have to worry about debuts, adjustments, and all that comes with it isn’t something in the cards now. He’ll be back later this season, when he can contribute offensively every day. I wasn’t a fan of the decision, but this sounds like Elias was on the side of keep him down to start the year and was convinced to call him up because of how damn good he was to start the season. If it were just up to Mike, it sounds like he’d have been down for much longer before getting the first call.
