To access zero clearance insert rear screws, turn base plate to 45 degrees. It gives access without removing the fixed base.

To reduce the under-the-saw dust problem with your 10" Makita 1019, hollow out the top of your saw bench and remount the saw base on two oak cross beams. Build and install a drawer in the stand, beneath the saw base beams. You can open up the drawer and vacuum it out when it gets filled with dust.

I have the same LS1019 miter saw. And I love it. 5:46 To remove the screws, you have to turn the table, as if we were making a 45-degree cut. At that time the screw is exposed. The same thing happened to me at the beginning, I didn't know how to unscrew it.

The only thing I did not like about it is that it does not have laser on both sides at the same time, and that it gets dirty very often. While blowing or unscrewing it and taking out the plastic that covers it, it can be cleaned. Also the laser is little seen with light. I would prefer a light system behind the blade. Which seems to me much more accurate and precise. Greetings from Chile

Ohhh my gosh I can’t believe I didn’t think of rotating the dang table! Thanks for that tip! I would agree it would be nice to have a light on each side or a shadow, sometimes I forget which blade side the laser is on. Haven’t had any trouble with it getting dirty yet but good to know -Alex

Bought this for my friend for his birthday, and he loves it. Father-in-law was a little jealous, even. :) Built solid, but light enough to move around for projects. Easy to use kzbin.infoUgkxPeGkHOMe05FySypTOvYumxMn-xi39oRe and makes great precision cuts. Doesn't come with a laser mount, but the fence is straight as an arrow and if you measure carefully, it's not a problem. Can handle dimensional lumber with ease, but of course, there's a limit to how thick. Handled a 4x4" post without a problem, but 4x6" we had to flip and cut twice. Only thing we've noticed is make sure to tighten the nut that holds the saw blade when you take it out of the box and maybe check up on it occasionally. For some, this is probably a no-brainer, but we neglected to do this and a few months in, found the motor running but the blade spinning at about half speed or less. Tightened the nut, and problem was solved. Very happy with this purchase. Dewalt makes sturdy stuff.

Great review I just ordered the 12" 36v version of this saw and iv been watching videos so I can learn as much as possible. There is a guy that said he had a problem with detent plate because it is made of soft metal the detent points begin to get wider so he made his owe through some company that is made of stainless steel but that is the worst thing iv heard about this saw Thanks for sharing ✌

I just got mine and I was looking at the 2 screws you talked about idk if they changed the design but on mine but if you turn the saw to 60° you should be able to access the 2 Phillips head screw with a stubby screwdriver

Yes you're right the screws are easily accessed by turning the table. That was definitely not my brightest moment.. haha and I also watched the video talking about the aluminum detents. I have not had any issue with it, as long as you aren't changing it a million times a day and slamming it into the detents it will be totally fine.

I have the 12” cordless. It works well. Only Cons: I had to setup the 45 degree vertical miter cut, as it came a little out Don’t like dust collection: I think ports and ducts should be much larger. Table side extensions should have two locking screws or a squarish guide for a tight fit, as it woobles as it is.

Awesome review my brother. I'm researching all my favorite picks and this saw is always on my list. Because the m18 is smaller and I'm heavily invested in the platform do I consider it. But I have just as many batteries and chargers from team teal so I think I'd much rather have the beastly makita 10". If for some reason I chose red it would be the 7 1/4 version. Clear, concise update on your favourite mitre saw 🙂 I'm gonna watch your video again just to see you caress it and cut timber with it, just because. I traveled 4 hours today (5.5hr trip) to pick up this exact model. Could have bought the LS1019 locally but good or bad I wanted that laser LS1019L). In AU$ it was almost $1190 pick up. I've unboxed and removed the solid metal side timber supports as the saw will be going into well on my just workbench. That's the plan but it's bigger than I thought so the bench will have to be reinforced as a fair bit of bench real estate has to be cut out to accommodate the saw. Haven't powered it up yet but I will do that for warranty purposes. Read a lot about this saw and although a bit exy it will have way better cuts than my old Ryobi and has some really neat features as well. Looks cool too. My Diablo 60 tooth blade doesn't fit it so I will go with the included 50 tooth Makita blade and see how it goes. Heard good things about the blade so may stay with it. So, my thoughts so far are: looks good, smooth as silk to slide and set angles plus, it's heavier than I imagined.

Thanks for the review. As far as the dust collection inside goes, I experienced the same problem with the vacuum cleaner. Just use it in combination with a chargeable compressed air blower (you can get them quite cheap nowadays) and it is easy to get at places your vacuum cleaner doesn't reach. You'll like it all over your workshop...

@@adamgibbons210 blow out like you would with compressed air. Those blowers are so strong nowadays that it feels like compressed air... You can then use your vacuumcleaner simultaneously to scoop up the Dust that is blown away.

Kia ora from New Zealand. These are great saws. Bought mine a couple of years ago and have no regrets. The only issue I've found is that when returning the saw upright after a bevel cut, it doesn't seem to lock back into the vertical. That little spring catch at the base of the saw looks like it should snap back into place but it doesn't. Feels like something may have jammed up.

I know what you mean, I just sit it up against the hardstop and lock it down. If you press in the button to bevel the saw to the right you will hear a click when you bring it back past vertical, and then you set it up against the hardstop. -Alex

The adjustment for the laser is so you can have the laser line on either side of the blade.... loosen it, slide the knob over, tighten it. Presto!

Regarding the minor annoyance you have with adjusting the zero clearance inserts. If you move the blade to the 45 degree position it might give access to the adjustment screws.

Great review. To me it’s a good thing when a tools dust bag fills up quickly. It means that it’s doing its job and collecting a significant amount of dust. You just have to keep an eye on it and empty it more often. I have an older Dewalt that will go for a long time without filling the bag. That’s because most of dust is flying everywhere else.

Hey Alex. Really nice review! I’ve had this saw about 2-1/2 years now and really love it. Was wondering if you know what the purpose of the stop lever is. They don’t address this in the manual at all, but it is named in the parts list manual. This is the little lever on the top and back of the rail. It flips down and stops the forward sliding motion about an inch shorter than normal. Keep up the good work!

I just took a look at the saw, what I think you're referring to is the depth of cut lever. I honestly didn't even know this existed and I'm pumped now that you've pointed it out 😂 It swings side to side, and in the position closest to the blade the cut depth adjuster (thumb screw) passes through the slot for a full depth of cut. But if you swing it away from the blade, the thumb screw hits the bracket and the blade stops short, so you can make trench cuts that don't go fully through a board. Huge feature for making quick dado grooves. Thanks so much for pointing this out!!

Lovely review. TBH, I didn't expect this much when I clicked on it first. You should set up a vacum as soon as you can tho, preferably with a cyclone, and you don't have to worry about dustbags either.

i have this saw and I too liked it.... until I realized that the left fence is not 90 degrees to the blade - There is not really much room to adjust it - or am i missing something here?

My question is for anyone who could answer it. I just bought a used Makita mitre saw (XSL06) model. The only issue with it it’s that it doesn’t make that CNC machine noise he was describing at the end. Instead it makes a grinding sound like if it’s metal on metal or it might need to be lubricated again. Does the sound wear off with time? I took it apart and cleaned it but it didn’t take the grinding sound away. Any suggestions?

Hello friend, can you make some reviews for cabinetry crown molding with this Makita? How is it accurate cut angles? for example, compare with fastool. for example, compare with Festool. Is this Makita same accurate as well as the Fastool?

I did do some cabinetry crown with this saw, you can check it out in my DIY laundry cabinets video part 2 I believe. It cuts very accurately even on the flat. I personally don’t foresee myself purchasing any festool equipment due to the crazy high cost. One of those saws is probably 3x the price of this makita, and I’m not sold that you get 3x the performance. Hope this helps! -Alex

Those zero clearance inserts can easily be adjusted if you rotate the base to 45 left and right of the blade. It will expose those back screws. Had the saw a few months before I figured that out😑

The first thing I saw in another review by another fellow was he put a machined straight edge across the table to ensure the turn table and the fixed part of the table are completely flat . Then he used a machine square to check the 90 degree between the fence all along the table , this has no adjustments so if out take the saw back . He also checked the horizontal square from laying flat on the table to both the right and left fence to the saw blade face . So if you talk about accuracy this is the only way to start the conversation I would think ? Have you done this with this saw ?

Does your Makita 10" saw have a STAINLESS STEEL Detent plate, for angle adjustment? The Older Makita's are Aluminum and wear out fairly quickly.

I think it is aluminum, but adjustable/removable. I don’t slam it in and out of the detents and it has shown no wear

Can you tell me the width of the saw without the extensions? I have to replace a small radial arm saw and only have 27" in my workbench space to accommodate this saw. If I take off the steel tubular extensions what is the minimum width of the base casting? Thanks for any help, Jim

The casting is 22.5” wide. 25.5” with the extensions all the way in.

That's a correct width measurement BUT if you have a wall or cabinet next to it you need 27" width to get full bevel adjustment Otherwise the rear of the saw will hit when you swing it over. Also on the depth you can easily get away with putting this on a 26" deep bench and even 24" with dust collection. This is if you don't mind the front handle hanging out. When not in use you can swing the handle all the way over and it will be flush with the base.

Great review, although cutting crown laying flat is far superior to bedding, since bedding alows for more margin of error if you get that angle perfect, and cutting it flat never requires changing the bevel. The only time I bed is when I'm cutting odd angles (different from a 90° corner).

@@MasonDixonAcres Definitely you need to know how, since it's a pain to try and figure out to trim put an octagonal column cutting everything flat. Cutting bedded though is kind of like watching the movie before you read the book, it's great, but not always 100% accurate. Good to know both though, and depending on the saw and the angles I have on a job, I will cut bedded sometimes. Also, if I'm crowning vaulted ceilings, I don't know how much math it would require to figure out those double compounded angles. Lots of times when it's appropriate, just not my all day crown cutting choice.

Make a crown sled and eliminate human error. Then it cuts as it lays in the wall.

Yeah I get what you mean, certainly advantages to both depending on the situation. Like Paul said, the sled is what I would prefer when cutting nested, I wouldn't try to hold it by hand while cutting.. I just haven't made a sled (yet)

have you had any issues with the aluminum detents starting to wear down and get out of spec? i watched another video of a guy showing his detents getting worn after four months of use but he also sold aftermarket detents which I thought was sus so wanted to check around.

I watched the same video before buying this saw, I have not had any issues. I also am not carelessly slamming the saw into/out of the detents all day.. not sure how you wear those out without abusing the tool pretty badly

Great video I buy this saw I have problem when i cuting right 45° it perfect But when I cut left 45° and put two pieces together it's not close 90° straight What can be a problem ?

I am about to return my new DEWALT DWS779 because The LS1219L is cheaper and all the unique features that you have mentioned. I have counted 14 features for the MAKITA over the comparable DEWALT DWS780 with a $166 US Difference between them. EXCELLENT 2-year experience video review. I am only concerned about my DEWALT miter table that I have had all of these years and I am hoping that I can mount the LS1219L on it...😎

Looks like the 17 is made exclusively for countries outside the US. It appears to be a much different saw that does not have the compact rail system and the table looks different.

Yes it came with the saw. It is quick adjust with a thumbscrew that locks the arm where you want it vertically, before tightening the main holding knob.

I don't believe so. I also have never had a situation I needed that ability and couldn't use the table saw, for what it's worth.

I said that for the laser guide, not the saw (4:19) I prefer to use my eyes for aligning small, precise cuts

For the zero clearance slot, I replaced mine with some made of phenolic. Way more flat and solid.

Not that I have found that’s built in. You would likely get better results with a router or tablesaw if you have either of those.

Is there any slop once the saw is locked into the detents? I have a Metabo 10" slider and its sloppy. Plis the bearings on the slide rails have a lot of play

Hey, Nice review ! I am interested to buy this saw ! dilemma between this and the Battery version, because HD near by me is selling the battery version of this saw (XSL06PT) for same price as corded (LS1019L) for 599$. Can you please provide your suggestion?

There are a few variables you should consider - are you already on the makita battery system and have some of these 18V batteries? I briefly looked that saw up and I'm not sure it can be plugged in as an alternate power source (dead batteries = dead saw). I'm sure power is comparable, modern batteries are impressively powerful. If it will sit in your shop all the time, the batteries will probably be more of a hassle than plugging it in. However, if you are on a jobsite every day and charge everything at night, you can't beat cutting the cord.

Dude, the dust collection ability of this saw is one of the best... it falls behind Festool Kapex by only a minor margin... but only if you use a shop vac. Get a cheap shop vac.

Does Dewalt really require 41"? The handle to turn the saw can be outside the bench

Pretty sure I got the measurement from their data sheet. A couple inches is fine but I personally don't like the saw hanging off the bench that far in order to get full travel of the slider, which is the case for the DWS.

I haven't done any research on that yet because my shop currently can't support the power requirements for any of them, but if I were on a budget I would probably go with one of the Harbor Freight units. Magazines like Wood or Woodsmith have reviews comparing the systems fairly often. There are probably some good reviews on the internet!

Your review make me wish to replace my heavy and not so great Bosch dual bevel 10 inch saw. It’s over 65 pounds, there’s no soft start, it jumps when the blade begin to rotate, and the lower mechanism is in plastic. And the stand doesn’t have wheels to move it easily. Gggrrr.
