I am still quite fond of hunting with a 30.06 bolt action with 180 grain ammo. I don’t usually use a tree stand, but there are a lot of deep ravines in West Virginia and therefore you still have an elevation advantage.

Usually hunt from treestands with archery equipment. Especially climbers and hang on stands. However, I do use ladder stands with a shooting rail on some occasions in rifle season. Usually, I like a rifle that's short, accurate, and doesn't kick too much. I've used various rifles, but my favorites are: 7mm-08, 6.5 Creedmoor, 30TC, 308, 260 Remington, 300WSM, .25WSSM, 257 Roberts, or the old 760 GameMaster pump in 30-06/270. Set the scope at 6 power. If I'm hunting out one of my elevated shooting blinds. I use one of the long-range rifles. TBH, I haven't used a lever gun in many years. Not since I upgraded to the 400/450 Legends when I hunt in areas requiring straight wall cartridges....

@Latemodellisa good evening ma'am. You we can use them here. I currently have the original savage ml2 converted to 45. Shoots 200 gr SST sabots n h4198 60 gr using the agg 209 system. It shoots better than I can since I shake from cOVID. The other one I have is an AGI custom 45 w 30" brux bbl, hs stock, n a savage lg shank target action. It uses the hankins ignition system and large rifle Magnum primers. I run h4895 99.5 grains and a swaged 300 gr areomax bullet. The last 2 shots before hunting were 1.75" out of bullseye at 720 yds n 4" out of bullseye at 843yds. The problem is it's not a tree stand rifle at all. Pushing close to 20#. The issue is its unbelievably loud, will ring your ears with plugs in. So gotta have plugs n muffs on, lots of deer aren't going to wait for you to do that. The sabot one is heavy for a tree stand too but much more practical n less loud than the monster. Hope you're having a great season ma'am. Stay safe n have a good Thanksgiving.
