All shots are fired from a distance of 100 yards so as to encompass the majority of common real world hunting scenarios.
I will be shooting into 10% ballistics gel from www.clearballi... that has been calibrated to meet the FBI ballistics testing protocol.
While ballistics gel isn’t an exact proxy for big game, small game, predators or defensive situations, it does provide a repeatable medium through which to test various bullets and ammunitions against each other.
With each type of ammo tested I collect data on bullet penetration depth, bullet weight retention, bullet expansion and muzzle velocity.
For reference, bullet expansion is measured at the widest expanded point using a calibrated Frankford Arsenal Digital Caliper.
Bullet weight is measured using a calibrated Frankford Arsenal Digital Scale after having removed as much ballistics gel as possible from the expanded bullets.
Bullet velocity is measured using a ProChronoPal chronograph set approximately 7-10’ from the shooting bench, depending on the cartridge and muzzle blast.
I am fully aware that a chronograph measuring bullet velocity from 10’ away from the muzzle is going to register a slower velocity than if velocity were measured directly at the muzzle, but that difference is going to be so small as to be all but irrelevant in regards to comparison of actual measured velocity versus factory stated velocity.
My goal with these ballistics gel tests is to provide hunters like you and I with the most objective information possible to help us make the best choice for our particular hunting situation.

I've done a bit of chronographing with my 350L 12.5" and it seems like most of the premium ammo is loaded with faster propellants that really get the bullet moving quickly. I keep the 165 grain FTX from Hornady in my HD gun and when I chrono'd them, I was getting full velocity in the 12.5" barrel. Really its a cool round and I think people will start appreciating its variety of capabilities in the coming years.

Hopefully someone can chime in, but anyone notice if the AR's with a singular feed ramp feed better than those with a 300blk feed ramps? Mine has the 300blk and it jams way to often.

I have the same barrel length in my AR pistol and I am getting the same results as you. Gonna be using Hornady 170 SP this deer season for in the thicket hunting. Getting 2100 FPS with these.

I have these loaded in multiple 20rd mags for home protection in a Ruger AR. Glad to see so ballistics gel tests on these rounds. 350leg = 9mm on steroids!

Pretty awesome! That initial fragmentation looks the same on all the entry wounds, almost like it was meant to do it lol, these would definitely get things done on a deer!

@nicks2581 not a bad choice! I've seen 9mm hollowpoints penetrate farther than this but with a much less impressive wound channel! Have you seen underwood controlled chaos in 350?

More manufacturers should do what Bear cr does by designing bullets / cartridges for Bolt / Single shot specifically. Hey Federal how about a Terminal Ascent in 350 legion😉

Any chance of doing a gel test comparison on 300 blackout vs 350 L for home defense within 15 yards? I’d like to see how high the gel block jumps and how far each bullet goes into the block.

350ledgend is a better deer gun when shooting bearcreek ballisticks 140g ammo everybody needs to know about this this stuff 2600 fps in 22inch barrel.

I would love to try using this load but I have not been able to find it in any store anywhere. So far I've been using 180 grain PowerPoints with great success, however the one deer I shot with 150 grain deer season loads ran away and I never found it.
