Effective logistics are the difference between wimning or losing a war. I dont think anyone can come close to the logistics power of the US military...probably bigger than the rest of the worlds forces combined, and indefinitely including all NATO forces. This video clearly demonstrates some of that power.

Just curious, why do the f22’s refuel overhead? Do they take-off with minimum fuel, and then get topped-off in the air prior to their journey? This is all so fascinating and I know absolutely nothing about the logistics involved.
@Mildenhall_Planespotter4 ай бұрын
@@kustom4935 they were entering control airspace so gained height over Norfolk before heading southbound towards France consequently overflying the field at 25,000 feet. This is just speculation on my part but I think they refuel soon as there are six jets so it can take a while before they get to the last one so there is less pressure. Also no reason not to start it sooner even if the receiver does already have half a tank.

Beautiful but why are the C-17’s rare? Rare to be seen at this base?
@Mildenhall_Planespotter4 ай бұрын
Those were Alaskan and Hawaii based C17s which are the furthest C17 bases from Europe meaning they come across far less often. They also don’t have as many C17s based there as most other bases. I caught a HH C17 a few weeks back but before then one hasn’t visited since June 2022 Alaskans normally come one once or twice a year. To see them both in the same day is something I’ve not remembered happening since I got into the hobby 4 years ago.

Is the KC 46 the replacement for the KC 135 ?😊

Fully replacing the KC10 and replacing an large proportion on kc135s
@1chish4 ай бұрын
@@Mildenhall_Planespotter Sorry but the decision on what aircraft replaces the KC-10 is still in the air. Originally, the Air Force plotted a three-stage modernization effort, with its phases dubbed KC-X, KC-Y and KC-Z, to replace the legacy tanker fleets. The KC-46 Pegasus was acquired to fill the KC-X stage, and the Air Force was mulling its next steps for the KC-Y, or bridge tanker, which would tide the service over until it procured KC-Z sometime in the 2040s. However Lockheed Martin has withdrawn its LMXT (based on the A330) aerial refueler from the Air Force’s KC-135 fleet recapitalization program-previously referred to as the “bridge tanker” effort but Airbus will keep bidding with the A330MRTT against the KC-46. However now the Air Force is cutting in half the number of KC-46 it planned to buy as an interim step and the KC-10 has already been retired. In short the USAF tanker strategy is a mess.

Australia should have procured Boeing KC-46 instead of Airbus KC-30. KC-46 has upper deck cargo door to enable re-configure from troop transport to carry more cargo when required + ability to land at shorter airstrips found in SE Asia region.

Its no surprise that the A330MRTT has won every contract outside the USA and Japan because it is simply a far more capable tanker / freighter. On fuel alone it delivers 111 tonnes while the KC-46 boondoggle delivers 96 tonnes. The advantage being obvious. It even beat the KC-46 to the USAF contract but Boeing's paid Senators changed the rules and gifted the deal to Boeing. Who promptly screwed it all up in current Boeing fashion. The list of delays and failures is long, dangerous and tragic: Years late, billions over budget, grounded and still cannot deliver fuel via its boom from inboard. The Aussies dodged a large bullet by not buying the KC-46 Pegasus.
@pjotrtje0NL4 ай бұрын
@@1chish to be honest: the first procedure was in favor of the KC-46, the second in favor of the KC-45/A330, the third in favor of the KC-46. So, apparently, the Boeing product’s better: 2-1!
