The main reason they don't eat each other is because they make a mutual safety net for one another. The Mantis Shrimp provides direct protection from predators while the Damselfish keeps smaller scavengers away and watches for larger predators that can eat the Mantis Shrimp. In return, the Damselfish indirectly lets more potential food items come by while also getting to eat things it normally couldn't. I have NEVER seen a mantis shrimp tollerate a tank mate before, they're preety opportunistic and very territorial, so its amazing that dom can even enter his burrow without being so much as chased out.
