Most of the aquarium plants I use for my and my client’s planted tank aquascapes come from Tropica Aquarium Plants in Denmark. Here I give a quick tour of the Tropica greenhouse and show you some of the amazing aquatic plants that they produce.

Tropica is an amazing company. What a complex they have. Growing plants to make people’s aquariums and lives greener sounds like a wonderful business to be in. Very cool of you George to give us a glimpse of something most would never have a chance to see

Hey george how to use amazon swords in nature aquascapes? They take a lot of space and shadow other plants with its leaves. I have a giant amazon sword in my aquarium which is growing really healthy and fast but look awful.

Tropica uses a substrate called Grodan and has since at least the early 1980's. It's a type of rockwool or mineral wool is another name for it.

One thing that stands out for me is the lack of algae on the surfaces of many of those hydroponic beds. They must be using an algaecide of some kind. I did see some algae on in the beds with the tents and Java ferns. I have grown aquarium plants in my home greenhouse with a good degree of success but I can't quite figure out how they have absolutely no algae on some of those bed surfaces... the white ones with the drain channeling. Anyone have a an answer?

You have a great job George. Tell me honestly where do you rate yourself in the aquascape world? Say if you were a footballer how far up the premier league would you be. By the way do you need a 58 year old apprentice??

😂 Interesting question. Comparing to footballing is tricky. I guess their success is largely determined by goals, wins etc. I measure my success in terms of how successfully I’m promoting aquascaping. So as an aquascaping influencer I rate myself higher than an aquascaper, if that makes sense? Like comparing Gareth Southgate to Neymar Jr... 😎

It's a real shame these are disappearing from the trade, more and more tissue culture plants are being sold instead of emerse plants. I've used potted and gel plants of the same kind in the past and It's been my observation that regardless of the species' actual categorization and "needs" chart, tissue culture plants always have a higher demand and thus a harder time adjusting to their advertised "low" aquatic environment. I haven't tried 1-2-Grow! yet, only solid gel plants, but if they won't make it in a low light, non-CO2 environment either, despite the description, I'll only use cuts from other hobbyists later on.

Selmer Reference54 Yeah they grow faster and bigger out of water, which is why it takes time for them to transition from emersed to submersed growth. I don't blame them though; it makes the most business sense for all the reasons George stated. :)
