Yes 20 years ago I loved the perfect cars and the good paint jobs. Now I just like seeing them running, junky or whatever. I use to not get the whole original and "patina" or whatever but the older I get the more I like the stuff in running original condition. I guess it's as I get older and realize how much those cars and the stuff costs to do that, and that those guys worry if a bird poops on it, if it's wet outside, raining dusty a rock bounces off it as he is running down the highway. I don't mind a backyard 20ft paintjob either thank it looks fine and protects the vehicle and gives it a decent look.

Not gonna lie, I just don't think I'll EVER understand investing so much time, energy and work into highlighting a crap paint job. Preserving and celebrating the "patina" just isn't my jam, but I enjoy watching the process. And yeah, I agree with the other commenters saying with the black body highlights the black rims should have stayed on. I would almost never go that route, but Mopars - for some reason - pull off that black rim look pretty well. Don't forget your eye protection when wire wheeling man, kids are watching. Including yours. Keep up the good work.

This has taken me back to my late teens! I can remember setting up a spray booth in my parents double garage. I used frame tent poles and polythene with a damp floor to keep the dust down. Before I started I had 4 old oil filled radiators plugged in to get the garage warm. I can still picture my mini and it's island blue paint with a white roof!!

I did exactly the same thing, but without the tent. My Mini was Almond Green with an Old English White roof, 1275A+ Metro engine, Cooper disks, Cooper perforated wheels, later genuine Minilites, negative camber and lowered all round with the obligatory RC40 exhaust.
@FenderTele
@FenderTele 9 ай бұрын
@@jameseastwood4984 I had a similar set up engine wise with a 1275 engine and a set of Cooper S reverse rims until I could afford minilites .I can remember the first MOT , after the rebuild, and the reaction I got. I was sitting outside the MOT centre with the engine running and got the signal to drive in . The guy that was doing the test laughed and said this thing isn't standard and I can smell the fresh respray .He told me that he'd done the exact same thing in 1971, I nervously waited outside wondering if It would pass.After what felt like an eternity he drove it back round to me and said you'll be going home now to fit your spotlights. His parting shot was you've made a tidy job of the wiring for the spotlights ,it's not like a rats nest here's your certificate.

I had 4:11's in my 8 3/4" with a 340 4-speed in a '74 duster (original 225ci auto car) with a very similar color. 3:55's were a much better street gear. Rear springs were a nightmare, even after grabbing V8 A-body leafs, my hyped up 349 twisted the crap out of them. Torsion bars suck even worse, especially when you also do a V8 swap with full length headers, they got flattened multiple times. Miss that car.

Looks Good.. you’re better off using a 1.3 or 1.4 for clear. In cold weather you wanna heat the clear. Boil a bunch of water then pour it in a bucket. Then set your cans of clear and hardener in there Let ‘em warm up Dutch oven style. (You can set them in front of a heater also). When the components are nice and warm, mix and spray. Trust me. Way less likely to run and it’ll lay down smooth. Set your gun about 29 psi at the cap. Material about 2 1/2 -3 turns out from fully closed and keep the wet spot movin’

There's always room to slide in the boss man's project. 😉 I've always been a GM A-body guy, but between Roadkill, Roadkill Garage, and you, good sir, these Dusters are growing on me. Love the direction you've gone with it. Make it nice to daily drive as is, but not so nice she's a trailer queen or just a cars and coffee rig. Love the work and everything you do. God Bless!!

My favorite build series of any show I’ve ever watched. I was an 80’s teenager and you rebuilt her looking almost exactly like my first ride. Mine was a factory 3 speed and Rallye rims. Oh, disc up front and a set of air shocks courtesy of the previous owner.

Well Derek my friend you are a man after my heart with your Mopar builds as I have proudly owned a 71 Plymouth Roadrunner with a 440 6-pack with the Air Grabber hood scoop, then I owned a 73 satellite where we took the old 318 out a put in a high performance 360 with hipo 340 goodies the 360 came out of police interceptor Fury and after boring it we came up at 372CI with the Torqueflight transmission and 8 - , it was really cool but my pride and joy 3/4 posi rearend with 3:55 gears but my pride and joy was a 67 Hemi Coronet all gone now but not forgotten, but my very first car was a 61 Ford Starliner that originally had the 390 CI but my cousins who used to race Fords somehow shoe horned a massive 429 Super Cobrajet that came out of 71 Shelby KR 500, now that was sweet and to this day my cousin Jim from Gainesville Fl. still has his old 66 Ford Comet where he took the 289CI out and put in a 351 Cleveland, sure do miss those days!! Thanks for what you're doing.

Ironically, an 84 Volare grille not only fits on that model Duster, it REALLY ROCKS!!! You wouldn't understand if you didn't see it. I know this because I had to replace the front of a 67 Duster with the front of an 84 Volare once. The car went from 'tacky' to TRACKY! [in appearance, anyhow] Still had a slant 6 in it, but when I did a flat black job on it, it sold literally the same minute I was finishing off the black. Some young man in a Blown 460 powered Mercury Bobcat with a chopped and tubbed rear end was cruising by, and as he looked over, he instantly pulled in at the next driveway and came right round and shelled out the cash. I forget what he said he was gunna put in it, but something WAAAAYYY BIGGER than that slant six!

Shame I can’t win this in the UK. The price of petrol here would destroy my finances. Gas here is £1.50/litre ($1.90) and there’s 3.785 litres in an American gallon. So that’s $7.15/gallon! I’d be working for the duster. Interesting thing is. There is a Romanian car manufacturer that makes a crappy SUV that you can buy in the UK called a “duster”. Think “Walter whites” car in breaking bad. It’s as ugly as that. What’s more irritating is the advertisement has “go duster” sung over the “Chostbuster” theme song. As irritating as crap! Sweet ride. Love the hood and patina. It’s truly a muscle car.

Derek, "Jesussandles " it's painful I'm sure to everyone watching you, use a hammer. I used to be the same, so I invested in a "Thor" 2 pound Copper and Hyde hammer, copper won't slip, it won't damage the bolt head or threads, great for separating driveshafts from their hubs . If you're going to use a ball&pean hammer for God's sake use a bigger one.
