Doing well with your stator set up. If you could somehow make an adapter that tore out the copper from 2 or 3 sides it would come out in 1 attempt I’m sure! The other thing that came to mind was what if you squashed the stator out of shape first? Push it on the top and the side just to loosen everything up.
@ProjectShopFl4 ай бұрын
I think it would be too much for the hydraulics to pull it all at once. It is pulling harder than it looks on camera.
@smithenstein794 ай бұрын

@TimberTramp3 ай бұрын
You need to rig up some sort of bonus clamp piece that you can quickly throw on (in addition to your hand clamp) for this last few pulls after everything is loosened. Thinking grabbing one side by hand and the bonus directly opposite side kinda setup. If you can reduce the trips back and forth cycling your hydraulics that will up your time. You can grab a bunch at once after stuff is loosened.

You were saying that most of the time was eaten by waiting for the claw to return. It might be a fun engineering challenge to create a claw that pulls from 3 to 5 points all at once (like if an umbrella, a meat hook, and an octopus had a baby hahaha). I could see you adding a lip to the top and bottom jaws of the holding clamp to hold the steel as you pull the copper.
@ProjectShopFl5 ай бұрын
I like that idea but I would need a better hydraulic setup. Pulling the copper in the big stators is harder than it looks the hydraulics are working. lol
@PastelPalace4 ай бұрын
FYI, if you want some more umph on your pull setup, make it so you are extending the hydraulic cylinder rather than retracting, like you currently are. Hydraulic cylinders have more force in extension due to the pressure acting on more area on the side without the rod.

A much easier way to scrap these is to burn the insulators and glue out. A stack several on top of pallets and light it up. Go about 4 pallets deep and stuff the inside of each with scrap wood. Then recover the next day. The copper comes out very easily with a few hammer blows. If you want to sell as number 1 then soak for a few days in diluted sulfuric acid saved from old car batteries. The carbon and other junk sinks, the coils are bright and shiny. Helps to aereate and agitate a little. Over time the acid turns deep blue and you can recover the copoer with electricity and regenerate the acid. ❤

Cold stripping a stator like that is the most difficult way to do this. First of all , there is no need to split it in half like you did. Just cut off the crown on one side. Second, burn it out, use a tiger torch if u have to, don't melt the copper, just burn off the insulation. It all comes out easy after that.

Might've missed on the yard. I had a bunch of steel that'd accumulated so I was doing a run, chopped up the frame of a treadmill to fit in the back to throw in with it. I didn't think much of it because I just needed to clear out the space in the garage but looking at the ticket now, I'm not sure this adds up, maybe you can clarify. I had told them it was all steel, no plastic, the basket of transformer gills was just another 10m with a hammer and chisel to get those winding barriers out. W/e, if it doesn't give them reason to cheapen the whole load it wasn't anything to me. Looking at my ticket then, I was kinda disappointed they gave me "sheet iron" for it, They had me back up to a normal steel pile bunch of random stuff, mixed metal stuff like fans and a discarded machinists toolbox (which I asked and they wouldn't let me rummage through). So looking at the ticket now it says I dropped 3160g at 7.5000 CW, when I run the math that comes out to just under 7lbs. I unloaded way more than 7lbs, just one of the baskets of transformer gills was 20, and I had 2 of those and a bunch of rods and the thick frame was heavy by itself. Now this was without weighing anything at home, I don't have a scale here, I'm running on muscle memory, but maybe I'm looking at this ticket wrong? Something seems off, it could be the machine was calibrated to much more weight and didn't register the difference very well in the smaller car? Either way, the point was to free up space, so It's not a big deal some cash in the gas tank, just wondering what you think call it a test run. *and the relief cuts between the rotor gills is a decent plan, you might be able to get away with skipping between them if you can free up 2 rods with 1 spacing.

ill just give you a tip. insted of all that work, before you do anything, put a fire going outside in one oil drum and put the stator and rotor burning during de morning,. in the afternoon all the varnish will be only ash. thefore all the space that it ocupies will free the cooper. then just pull it of or cut it with a grinder. i do that all day. probably ill do around 2 or 3 of those a day easy. just saying...
@ProjectShopFl3 ай бұрын
Thanks for the tip but I can't burn stators every day and there is no need. By the time you burn 2 or 3 in a fire creating toxic fumes and cut with a grinder wasting blades and creating dust I can process many more and this set up is not finished.
