You Can't Eat The Grass

3 жыл бұрын

When the world gives you flower, you make bouquets. For this weeks farmers market, we are using food coloring to attempt to make rainbow sunflowers, that we assume, will sell quickly at the farmers market. We also have a bounty of zinnias, snapdragons, cosmos, and dahlias to build bouquets with. For veggies, all the usuals are there, carrots, beets, zucchini, cucmbers, and tomatoes. The forest fire smoke is an issue this week, and it is slowing us down, plus traffic at the market will be down. Regardless, our $1000 market sales goal remains, we must make the money necessary to keep the lights on at the farm, so smoke or shine, we need to get to that farmers market to sell our bouquets and veggies.

Ian and Serina of YOU CANT EAT THE GRASS feel that every small change can make a big difference to the world we live in. Every garden planted leads to a better future. We hope to inspire and motivate others to make positive changes in their lives by sharing our journey towards greater sustainability as we build our family farm. It's hard work to build a life worth living, and completely worth it!

It is such a shame your vegetables don’t sell as well as flowers. I can’t imagine anything better than home-grown freshly picked produce, even if it means a separate trip to farmers market as oppose to getting all your food shopping at a supermarket in one go. Wouldn’t it be great if local supermarkets also had a section and sold your produce not only supporting local community but also bringing best food available to people.
@EvelynM-vlogs
@EvelynM-vlogs 3 жыл бұрын
I'm guessing there are less flower vendors at the market then their are fresh food vendors. It's not that vegies don't sell, its just that there are many other vegie farmers at the market. Customers split their purchases amongst all of them.

Great ending! haha. I think its clever but also really sums up the core of what you guys do and why you do it. I would add a "support your local farmer's market" message in every vlog. It really drives your message home. Great work.. and the footage of the flowers... absolutely gorgeous.

Though the dyed sunflowers was an interesting experiment, please just use the natural colored flowers. No need to improve on nature’s beautiful rainbow of colors. People buying at farmers’ markets are looking for the “natural” instead of the “artificial.” Kudos to you, though, for always being willing to try something different just to test the marketability. .

You could do "ready to cook" packs of veggies, like tomatoes and an onion and some garlic and basil like for pasta, or ready to cook Bolognese sauce ( carrots. celeriac, tomatoes and basil), you could also use all the leftover leaves from the basil you clean for the bouquets and make pesto, people love freshly made pesto. I think you are amazing.
