Today we review the massive haul of relics and coins that I found recently by simply fanning the river bottom with my hands while snorkeling at the site of an old river dump. This dump was pushed into the river over 70 years ago and contains all sorts of goodies including coins, silver, marbles, bottles and so much more.
About Aquachigger:
I enjoy metal detecting for historical items like gold coins, relics, silver coins, and other buried treasures. I also metal detect for gold and silver nuggets and even meteorites. I like to make videos that promote my choice of lifestyle that includes outdoor adventure,
metal detecting, yapping, searching for river treasure, SCUBA diving, exploring abandoned places, hiking, caving, caring for animals and pets, and observing the things outdoors that often go unnoticed by most people who are not familiar with outdoor adventures and nature. I keep my KZbin "Aquachigger" channel family-friendly and hope you subscribe if you like my style.
BTW, you can also catch me here, / chiggsarmy ,but I may get a little edgier there. FB isn't a place for kids anyway...lol.

4:20 A tube from "knob and tube" wiring, the tube would be set in a hole through a framing member, like a joist or stud, and a strand of wire would pass through it, keeping the wire insulated from flammable parts of the house. 5:15 An old radio AIR CAPACITOR TUNER. the first half fits together with the 2nd part, fin and fin, and would be rotated together to receive different frequencies. The first half is called a stator, the 2nd part with the shaft attached is the rotor. 9:12 The heating element from a car cigarette lighter. The coil would get red hot to light your smoke.

Those two items at 5:20 do go together and that is a variable capacitor that is used to tune a radio. The fins would mesh together but never touch and that is what changed the station you were listening to. It at one time had a string and guides that moved the needle on the dial as you turned the knob. You can also find them in old televisions but they will be more complex and longer with rotary switch contacts at the end.

Yep, as someone mention those Fins are part of an Air Ganged Capacitor from a vacuum tube radio. Some transistor radios had them years back. Air gangs were very commonly used to tune for example and AM radio. As mentioned, to tune in the dial to your desired favorite radio station or stations.

The 2 multi-panelled metal plate sections appear to be anything 1900s-1930s electric and radio technologies of a rheostat (like the insides of a radio dialing mechanism to get the right frequency, they interwove their panels with each other creating a specific frequency. It is also possible to be part of a variable transformer, amping up the voltage or amperage of the current for volume in a huge radio - industrial or military/govt design.

the ball chain could have been from dog tags, but I think it was probably attached to a sink or bathtub stopper. There was usually a hole in the faucet for the ring at the end of chain. The electrical insulator was used in knob and tube wiring to pass through joists or studs. You also showed a part from a variable capacitor, typically used to tune a radio or TV receiver.

hi Chigs your fin items at 5.36 to 5.48 are radio tuner fins the actual interlock with each other as the dial is turned and they then bring in the signal of the radio station. Really enjoy watching your videos. So keep up the good work Tam from Dundee Scotland

5:27 is a radio tuner. The second piece rotates into the first piece to change the frequency. 6.11 is part of a ball bearing. This houses the balls and keeps them separated. The ball a little later is probably from this bearing. There would be another piece that holds it all together and some seals. 9:18 could be the element from a car cigarette lighter.

@4:08 those are reeds from a pump organ. Found in theaters before talkies and of course other places. If you clean it good, you should find an indication of what music note it is. I found one when doing a bit of detecting next to my job's office, where our landlord is building a parking lot. Long story, slightly shorter: there was a theater on that block in the 1910's and a few more nearby. My guess is, it came from an organ from one of them. Our building, although from around the 1940's, is in the oldest part of town, dating back to the 1700's, and was the market square. In fact, our building was apparently built on top (but slightly further over) of another that existed in 1755. The 2 buildings which were next door were from the late 1800's, but were torn down about 20 some odd years ago. In building the parking lot, the remaining concrete and brick underneath was dug up, so of course I just had to look. Part of the property at the back doesn't appear to have had a structure on it according to the Sanborn maps, and it seems like it was a dump site for the nearby buildings. Found over a dozen in-tact bottles from 1900-1940's (including a large clay Carter's Ink bottle!), an oil lamp burner, square nails, bunch of unidentified stuff of course, and a whole bunch of coal, and ash. Coin-wise, I only found a single wheat penny, and can't make out the whole date, but it's 19_9. Something about the gray clay, river, or coal ash (probably) was not friendly to metal in the ground. A lot of the glass even seemed to have a strange iridescence to it. Also seemed like there was a fire at some point, based on a layer of black carbon I found a foot or so down in one part of the lot.

Back when I was a kid, they had a big sinkhole that folks throwed their garbage and junk in, big big sinkhole and this farm behind us had a big sinkhole back in one of their pastures they throwed their junk in, but yeah I remember going through those and finding things that went back to the turn of the century maybe before. But these sinkholes I'm talking about I believe we're actually part of the cave systems that are around here, Russell's Cave, mainly, nowadays it's called Russell Cave, there's a road named after it and a elementary school named that too. But that Russell Cave is part of a larger cave system, and there's different systems down there that will take you to Boonesboro ( KY), and other systems that will take you to other locations, there's caves all over KY, and Central KY mainly.

At 5:53 the two things with fins are two parts of a "variable capacitor". The fins of the two parts mesh. One side is stationary and the part with the lovely curve rotatates on a spindle to vary depth the vanes are meshed, but the vanes on the two parts do not touch each other. An air gap is maintained between each of the fins, or plates. Adjusting the depth of the mesh varies the electrical capacitance of the assembly. It is typically used to tune a radio to the frequency of the different stations. That one looks to be a type in use up to the 1930s or 40s. Smaller versions are found in modern radios.

That white porcelain just you picked up was for the old two line electric wire system in houses it was called knob and tube and that is the tube . They would drill holes through the studs and put them in and then put the wire through them.lots of houses still have these in them they didn't bother taking them out when they switch the electric wires to grounded wire over if they switch the electric over.

At 6:28 looks like a bearing race or part of one. At 11:45 that is the end of an eyepiece for a microscope. At 13:16 that is a Chinese coin of some sort it has a sqaure hole in the middle of it.

@11:45 I thought the same thing, part of a microscope/field glasses/opera glasses...or, part of an old rifle scope, like from a .22 or something smaller.

5:20 onwards, variable tuning capacitor from a radio, both parts go together, high capacity with plates all rotated in, low capacity, when the moving plates are turned completely out.

Maybe or maybe not. 3:13 The beaded chain looks exactly like the chains that I used to pull to turn on and off lights generally in an old shop or pantry, when intact they were 6 inches to a couple of feet. 11:33 The disk with the glass center may be the front lens to an antique brass kaleidoscope. They made some beautiful kaleidoscopes way back. I have a handmade brass kaleidoscope that I picked up in England and the front lens looks very similar to yours.

The things with all the fins are variable capasitors. One use is when you use to turn the knob on your radio it was turning the fins on one of these.
