Oh my gosh. Did you use the Dana K White method of storing containers with their lids on?! It seems completely completely crazy until you hear all the reason why it works. And it really did. Great job homeowners for letting go of so much stuff. Great job to you for guiding them and helping them!

Always easier to throw out others' items. Yes, she agreed to it, but I've seen these types of shows & there's a lot of coaxing and pushing and pressure to do so. I have some clutter and both my sister & I live by the motto that more is more. So many things mean so much to me ... Someone gave it to me, made it for me, or I bought it at a great place or at a certain date. Nope, no one's deciding what I get rid of, but me! 😅

I hear you. I’m definitely not like the organizing shows you’ve seen. My clients make 100% of the decisions on what stays and goes, not me. I’m there as a “voice of reason” and to help guide them, but the only way to make real change is to make the decisions yourself.

Such a great transformation, I do something in a similar line of work. And I enjoy watching videos such as yours for motivation and ideas, but as you stated it’s a big help when the client is on board with letting go of items that no longer serve a purpose or is just getting in the way to a more, clear and functional space.

Yes we humans hold on to too many unneeded & no longer wanted or used items. I love organizing & I declutter my closet -3 times a year(I don’t buy things I don’t love and when I do something very old and unused gotta go before I buy new stuff. Other areas I have no problem cuz I seriously over the years told my self and stuck to this: DONT BUY ANYTHING YOU DONT NEED OR WILL USE…ALL THINGS IN MY HOME! So I don’t really have a decluttering issue cuz befire this, I wud declutter 2-3 a year anyway…no matter how small the trash was… 4 Categories: - Give Away - TRASH - Donate - SELL

Great job, but you don't want to store wine in a bright (hot) exterior doorway. You'd be better off storing it in that (white) pantry/closet, perhaps on it's original "wine rack" (removing one bottom shelf within that pantry). That's how I would have done it as a former (retired) home organizer!

Within 3-1/2 years, I moved to 5 states: TX AL FL CA LA. I just gave my notice this week. I only keep my favorites, and I get rid of everything that can replaced for less than $20 or within 20 Minutes at Amazon. If I have 2 of anything, I get rid of the larger items, bec I only keep what fits in my 12 large Totes: 1 Art supplies 2 Bathroom/Laundry 3 Blankets, Pillows 4 Cat food litter toy 5 Clothes Fall, Winter, 6 & Spring, Summer 7 Cooking, Appliances 8 Dine, Place Settings 9 Docs, Books, Pics 10 Office/Study 11 Pantry 12 Work Tools

I'm comparing my kitchen. I have virtually no food storage. No pantry -no closet. Can you do a video in a home with a serious lack of storage? Actually no wall space either as it's taken up with windows. I just have a few upper cabinets.

It all depends on how many organizers are working on the project and the number of hours. I highly recommend working with a licensed and insured company, like mine!

When you keep what reasonably fits in the square footage you have, you have the space you need. In small spaces, we try to be creative with the use of vertical space whenever possible!

What would you say to clients who want to declutter but their spouse won't let much go?

Great question! I suggest focusing on decluttering the items that are just yours first. If their stuff is encroaching every space in the home, set boundaries with them (ie “my side of the bed must stay clutter free because I sleep here.”). I also highly recommend reading “The Hoarder in You” by Dr. Robin Zasio. I’ve linked her book on my Amazon as it’s one I recommend all the time.

That’s so hard. Like anything else in life, people must themselves come to the realization that they need to change. Until that point, real change is difficult. I highly recommend reading The Hoarder in You, as it has great suggestions on setting boundaries with family. It’s in my storefront (linked in bio).
