Sunday, January 10th was a(nother) special day at Maverick’s - a mad cherry on top of a two-week bender of nonstop North Pacific swell. And yeah, we’ve covered a few angles already: Twiggy’s gnarly wipeout. Peter Mel’s really, really big wave. Jamie Mitchell documented the whole day right here. And then we did a photo gallery. @Surfline report said “EPIC 30-50ft”and apparently 70ft plus, Peter Mel has solidified himself as one of, if not THE greatest big wave surfer in the history of Mavericks , the paddle in barrel was so smooth and clean and too cap it off with one of the cleanest 70ft monsters after a month of legendary swells , I vote Peter Mel into the Mavericks hall of fame...

I have watched these Santa Cruz guys since 1990s and your absolutely right. Jeff Clark is the king but Mel is probably the best most fluid stylish guy ever out there.Also his longevity is worth the number one spot.I was a local surfer for thirty years in HMB...not really a mavs guy...to old even in the 90s.now I surf my lazyboy.love the videos
