I've never seen a redfin much over 35cm so color me impressed :O That 47 is a Behemoth. On the subject of eating smaller Redfin, I don't much care for filleting and simply wrap them in foil, scales and all with a sprinkle of Lemon Pepper. It's no fuss to remove cooked skin with scales. If I'm cooking alone, I don't even gut them as the gut remains whole and seals itself :) I do the same with Trout.

Hi Robbie, saw this segment last night,with 2 nice redfin to eat, plus great footage of the underwater Reddies, luckily there wasn't a bigger red to swallow your camera. Last time i sent you reponse message regarding not just fillet these, but to just scrape the scales of them, remove the guts and then pan fried just using plain flour, some seasonall steak/ bbq spice and cook them in butter or margarine. The fins will taste similar to pork cackle, and you don't lose any wasted fish this way. I was brought up cooking this method via my grandparents over 60 years ago with all types of fish except for some salt water fishes. I remembered that you said you will try this method and have you yet. Please let me know what you think of eating fish this way. Cheers mate. Andy Kenins

Lake William Hovell is a beauty of a place and we also camp regularly in the area, I have to say its probably my all time favorite place in the world. An exceptional couple of big Redfin Robbie. The images of Lenticular clouds are amazing, thanks for the heads up. The underwater footage appeared to make the Redfin look longer and less deep...could that be the way the lens depicts them? Another great creative video from the maestro. Cheers.
@robbiefishing7 ай бұрын
Thanks so much Neil. I agree about the redfin. I had the camera set to superview, which is Ultra wide. That is called lens distortion which is common with wide angle lenses. If there were trees on the sides they would lean on towards the centre. Haha If I set it at a narrower depth of field I wouldn't fit as many fish in, the water would appear dirtier and the fish would likely be blurry.

Hey, mate just had a quick question, I fish two private dams that have plenty of redfin in em and i was wondering if i will still catch em in the winter months in SA. Cheers
@robbiefishing7 ай бұрын
Hi mate, winter can be a great time of the year to catch big redfin. I find that every waterway is different though. Some.fire up during winter and some shut down. Redfin are a very interesting species of fish. Every waterway fished differently.

Awesome sauce! 1.2kg gutted weight? 47cm. That's a very nice meal for a family. The 45cm would have been a new pb if you'd caught it first but it was overshadowed by that monster. Keep them coming mate.
@robbiefishing7 ай бұрын
Thanks Bruce. Spot on mate. The only reason it wasn't my PB is because I caught a bigger one an hour earlier. Hahaha 🤣🤣

Might be an idea to put some measurement marks or a stick on fish measure to your kayak paddle. Great session Robbie. Love a feed of reddies.

That was certainly impressive and anything smaller than those two big ones is probably thanking you for their absence in the lake :)

Always a great watch Robbie. Love WH, it's stunning, level looks low. Have you seen any carp there? Or know of anyone catching them?
@robbiefishing7 ай бұрын
Thanks mate. The lake is currently 60% full. I have caught carp in there on my channel in a couple of videos. I've certainly seen plenty there.

@@robbiefishing in your early videos? I wonder if they stocked them in the 1960s there when the dam was built. They did in many others in the snowys etc. Very little way of them entering that lake otherwise.
@robbiefishing7 ай бұрын
@@willandchev4251 Yeah mate in my earlier videos. I can't remember the names of the videos, but I was bait fishing from the bank in winter. People probably took baby ones up there and used them as bait for redfin, that would be my guess.

Hey Robbie, sadly all the redfin in my local dams around Orange have been given a virus so I haven't caught one in about 3 months.

Do you prefer the kayak compared to being on the bank when you are on your own? Looks like fun.
@robbiefishing7 ай бұрын
Hi Mike, it depends on so many things. Shore based it certainly more comfortable. LOL Kayaking allows me to fish in more spots though, including out deeper.

@@robbiefishing It looks too heavy to lift on your own
@robbiefishing7 ай бұрын
@@mohammednovalija It is quite heavy. It's almost twice as heavy as other kayaks of the same make. I wanted a black kayak, and in order to make it black then needed to use twice as much plastic to water down the white resin. They usually make a granite colour which is black plastic with white resin. Mine is twice as much black plastic with the resin, so it is very heavy. I can still manage fine now, but in another 10 years it may be a different story.
