Do you get your favorite potting soil online or at a store near you? What would be comparable to it at a big box store? I’ve never tried growing from seeds but you’ve convinced me it is doable and definitely a lot cheaper after the initial layout for supplies.

I'm debating on trying to start violas. I'm probably a little late, but I do have plenty of seeds, so if it doesn't work, I can do it in the spring. You have quite an extensive amount of plants for fall. Everything should look lovely.

Do you leave all that water in the snapdragon bottom trays? If so, how often do you refill them? Love the vermiculite tip, never thought of that!

I do leave it in … filling it varies over time, but I just check them every day and add water once all of the water is gone in the tray.

New to seed starting. Why if you know that you won't be planting for some time, don't you just start in that larger pot ?

Starting in the larger pot isn’t always good for the seed because there is a greater chance of mold and fungus with more soil, harder to keep it moist during the germination process and takes up more room as not every seed will germinate … but you can definitely give it a try with larger pots … just because it works for me doesn’t mean it’s the best for you, so definitely experiment to see what happens!

If your snapdragons over winter or over -summer, so you cut them back all the way to the root, or do you need a living stem with a couple of leaves for them to survive?

I cut them back to about 6 inches during the winter and during the summer, they literally just stop growing and stay short.

?? Do you pre-treat or wash your pots after removing plants? I wonder if you are concerned about any contamination from local businesses' pots prior to the re-potting growing seedlings ⚾️

I do not … it takes a lot of time and I have not run into any cross contamination that I’m aware of in my 15 years of gardening but there is always the chance, so if you are worried about, definitely take the time to clean yours!
