I bought my Ranaculas at Costco last year. I added chicken manure to the soil and they were much taller than 12 inches. I also still did fertilize with a water soluble fertilizer every 2 weeks. 😊

Thanks for sharing all your beautiful finds & tour. Where I live in Ohio Zone 6B, I did find some bulbs for sale at Lowe’s. I got some Darwin Hybrid Red tulips, and a mixed bag of hyacinths. My intention with these bulbs is actually to force them to bloom indoors this winter. I got a miniature fridge last year to force bulbs last year, & now I am obsessed! It is such a treat to see gorgeous spring flowers in the dead of winter!

Hi…I bought a lot of these at our Costco here, north of Atlanta Ga. We had a whole bunch of gnats in the house and it turned out to be the bags of bulbs. The Foxtrot and Purple Lady tulips were rotting…they will be returned tomorrow. The Red and Pink Impression Tulip mix had a honey looking dried ooze on some of them and the bulbs looked a bit funny, little circles all over the bulbs. I watched another video and have found that it is a fusarium disease. The lesson here is to open them up and check your bulbs. They shouldn’t be mushy, have lesions (the little circles) or look weird and I had no idea that sticky ooze stuff was a disease. 😕Be careful, I almost planted a disaster in my garden.

I’m trying bulbs for the first time this year. (Lots of firsts for me!) I have read if you have squirrels that dig the bulbs up (something a lot of my neighbors struggle with), to cover the bulbs with chicken wire after you plant them. I plan to try that and hope I get some pretty spring flowers next year. 😊

I planted mine 12-15 in deep to avoid squirrels. Then worried all winter that I planted too deep! But they came up beautifully. No squirrels got to them(even tho they dug all over the area. I planted in bunches, so I dug a few bigger deep holes, as opposed to a ton of narrow deep ones. In zone 8a

Nice video Amanda! I grew tulips for years and now have the courage to not buy it when I see them. The quality of bulbs Costco sells reduced drastically in past few years.. it’s not just you! Tulips are expensive for NTX gardeners😂 So I tried hyacinths few years ago indoors by placing them on small rocks in glass containers filled with water up to the root of the bulbs. ( Home Depot bulbs)It was a magnificent display of variety of colors. Planted them outside once it’s bloomed for the season, some came back some didn’t.. I didn’t care much too .. one white still comes back after years. And I didn’t cold stratify it at all .. was unaware of it then. Hyacinths can cause allergies… my hands were itchy after dealing with bulbs…using gloves helps..

The hyacinth come back for me in zone 9b… but I’m NOT your regular 9b here in coastal CA. We’ve maybe had 2-3 days over 80° so far this summer… usually foggy & highs are in the 60s (we will get into 70’s/80’s in sept & Oct pretty regularly)… but back to the hyacinth…. in 9b, obviously they don’t get winter chill, BUT they do get winter rain (& our past 2 winters have been VERY wet for our area), & for the most part I have planted them where they get no summer irrigation… and we usually get NO rain here mid May thru mid Oct….. that being said… I’ve had a couple come back under a fig tree that I would water 2-3 times a month in summer… another thing I like about hyacinth is soooo far (🤞🤞🤞🤞) the 😡gophers😡 have ignored them! Soooo long story short I have had successful hyacinth returning… dare I say perennializing?! … with no chill, winter wet, summer dry conditions. Don’t know if you can replicate that where you are???
