I'm honestly shocked at how fast you got to higher ranks. I've played Tekken my entire life but just 2 weeks ago I bought T7 and it was my first ever experience against human beings. It's a weird feeling, because I got to know how little I knew about this game, all my life defeating just bots.

i've played tekken 5 since my childhood and i could routinely perfect the bot. Then after years I finally make friends who are into fighting games, i put tekken 5 on a ps2 emulator thinking imma whoop their mashing ass nah, all of em destroy me cause they just mash random moves and I'll be trying to block but obviously they're not using the same strings as the ai so i get surprised and punished for being patient. Turns out I only learned how to play against the ai's programming and real people will, in fact, not get hit by random super moves, the 10hit combos and devil jin's flight laser xD Realized i know jack shit about how to actually play the game fast forward to few days ago, a friend (complete noob for fighting games in general) buys tekken 7, asks to play on steam couchplay. Meanwhile I've played DB Fighterz since release, have way over 1000 hours on it and one of my friends even ranked high at EVO for the game and I beat him sometimes. I think "ah well now with my understanding of fighting game fundamentals and all I'll surely whoop ass in tekken" >play >pick characters i knew from tekken 5 so i can be familiar with moves AND apply my new knowledge >lose 13-4 this game is really not for me it seems xD

Excellent! I'm a bit late to the party, but nice video. Pretty accurate description of how each color feels, though it varies quite a bit depending on how cheesy your character is. It's harder to get through the lower levels with a super honest, fundamentals-focused character (i.e. Kazumi, Lili, Shaheen) but it speeds up the intermediate process because you have to learn faster. I swear there is no more iconic duo in Tekken than low ranks and free Jins. I've fought so many myself.

can't step electric with most characters, you need to walk it. But it's difficult so I wouldn't recommend it. Also yeah recording your matches and watching them and labbing what you don't understand is the most time efficient way of getting better, good job figuring that one. Every exceptional player I've ever known has been able to play all or almost all characters proficiently, so I stole that strat when t7 came out, learned every character and now I'm without a doubt a better player than ever before. MAYBE ITS A COINCIDENCE, but what if it's not? gl

It's all about the character. Example, King i usually mash 1 when he's close because they like to buffer giant swing. And when we are not close i mash 1+2 because they will use the running grab. Law, Bob, Marduk, Lee in stages with floor break, Leo when she has back at wall, Fahkumram and Kazumi when we have our back at wall, etc. All these dangerous throws break with 1+2 so I'm always alert to it. Way better just eat a normal throw than one of these that will kill.
