I've been playing keyboards/piano for more than 30 years and I can't say I've seen a better explanation of how to play the keys. For me, at least, this makes a lot of sense. I wish this guy was around when I first started learning. Great video! Keep them coming my friend!

Definitely had to comment and say I 100% hope you upload a video about different modes that you were referring to at the beginning. I already know all 12 major scales when I started learning years back and ever since then they have been seared into my brain. I do have to say it helped me to understand the “right” sound when I knew what Key a song was in and especially how to color within the lines. Still helps today w/ moving across the board as well which is what I believe you are referring to w/ dexterity. Anyways it’s kind of stopped there since I couldn’t afford anymore lessons but this channel is teAching me a lot. Much appreciated.

Cool Thanks for the tips! I’m A guitarist learning piano. What’s the benifits! if you already know the letter of each scale why would one want to know the letter as a number? Either way I’m still gonna memorize them as numbers now.

That's really the point of learning keys. Look at it this way... You have a major and a minor scale. Your major scale goes like this: "w" = whole "h" = half Major: w, w, h, w, w, w Start at C. Go up a whole note to D. Go up another whole note to E. From E, go up one HALF a note to F. Remember, from the whole note E to F is a half note even though they are both white keys. A half note is one key to the next, that is to say if you play in the key of C major, you will play only white keys. Ironically, if you play in the key of A minor, you will also play only white keys. So which is it? Is what you're playing in the key of C major or A minor? Look at the third note you're playing. But the best way I can explain this is to encourage you to PLAY, PLAY, PLAY and you will start hearing and playing by ear. For some this is extremely easy and for others it takes time. Either way, playing music is always a good thing! Minor: w, h, w, w, h, w Start at A. A true minor scale is both A and D because of the progression. Good luck and have fun!

Scales has to be the most boring part about music theory!!! I see why they say its best to learn as a child, because Adults rarely have the time or attention span to dedicate themselves to memorize them! I think if I had a bunch of pictures on the wall showing each key and I just practiced that way, it would stick..
