A rare film of masterful excellence which truly brings the audience to feel like they're seeing the occurrences of the year it portrays, supported in part by its well-selected and period-appropriate score. Unquestionably one of my all-time favourite films, it was perfectly crafted.

Этот фильм слишком недооцениваешь изначально. После второго просмотра фильм смотрится совершенно по другому. Шедевр, и по актёрской игре, и по музыке, и по исторической части.

The combination of the music, cinematography, stellar acting, and excellent consolidation of Patrick O'Brian's wonderful writing made this a truly special film. It seems to have slowly acquired some measure of the reputation it always deserved in the years since release.

Dave the Wave here, a beautiful piece with extraordinary scenery, exposes the actual life of a British line officer in the service of his country. As a former military man, this brings back memories of a young boy's fascination with all that is presented in sea-faring life fun and danger at every turn. Adventure, mystery, intrigue, great stuff.

I watch this movie once a year, and never get tired of it. Thank you for this! * Maturin: "Subject to the requirements of the service." * Aubrey: Ah. (pause) Well, Stephen... the bird's flightless? * Maturin: Yes. * Aubrey: It's not going anywhere.
