From the sounds of it. The war was a stalemate for decades, centuries even. By accepting the punishment, fewer people will die Besides, they could just not trade. Sounds like there was an embargo before anyways so they're plenty self sufficient

@@silvadelshaladin I agree part of the reason I don't think they deserve any punishment is that the ones that started it where the council and despite there claims of doing it for the animals being up lifted it kind of rings hollow. I say that since unless they don't perform any animal testing at all which seems highly unlikely considering the level of technology that the humans seem to have and how they appeared to be on equal or near equal footing with the rest of the entire council they would almost certainly be just as guilty of such testing for drugs and such. As well The dogo leader also pointed out animals that had been breed in the past and simply left to come to a genetic dead end and die off as they became useless to species of the council. So that is also a point for the humans actions. So yea I would be cool with saying we completed what we set out to do. So the reason you claim you started this war is no longer a thing here is a cease fire and peace agreement where we just stop fighting go back to our lives or we can continue to dance this little dance. Any hostilities beyond that would be hubris on the councils part.

@@josephkasmarcik2895 if you actually follow it forward, humanity matched the council blow for blow. It's not just humanity anymore, the council needs to realise that their actions have just ensured a permanent alliance between a species that already matches their entire might, and a species who will stand and die side by side with them, were they, te council are on the outside. Besides the councils terms are stupid. A trade handicap, against a fully self sufficient species. A colonisation ban against a species that you'll probably never find living on planets without a healthy population of humans too. You just guaranteed that for the next 500 years, the 2 species will act as one, but with 1 key difference than before. Now if a fight starts, you better run, before humanity fought to give their friends a better life. Now you have 2 species that will litterally die for one another, and both are excellent at killing already. Fighting to protect will have you hold the line and limit the war, fighting for vengeance will see you go all out.

They didn't lose. It was a stalemate, a resource annihilator for both sides. Humanity accepted the conditions, because they would rather have their newly sentient family members live in peace and grow if possible. They did not expect them to take half the burden. And as sure as they did that, they probably would have stood and fight with humans, if humanity did not decided on peace. The sentence was worth the "crime" in humanities eyes.

@@neosildrake If it was a stalemate, why should humanity accept 1200 years of robbery by trade imbalance, etc? Just offer peace without sanctions on either side. Pups are people now, so why keep fighting over it? Alternatively, maybe threaten to uplift cats next, if the war continues and watch every xeno simultaneously poo themselves. Even semi-sentient cats could be pure nightmare fuel. Dogs are loving pack animals, but cats naturally don't give a f*ck, and love to play with their food. Dogs of war? Nah. Unleash the giant hyper-intelligent kitties of chaos!

Listened to this in two parts, tries swapping devices while at work and home. I even got to thinking how it would have been done, and I thought of the near inbreeding many species of dog have gone through, my thought on how to correct it would have been to reintroduce wolf and other wild canines to the stock.

No, they would have declared war on the council for daring to try to impose sanctions on us. Make no mistake that our cats love us too but where uplifted dogs would insist in going to war along side us* uplifted cats would go to war whether we liked it or not. Dogs would fight loyally to protect us, cats would avenge us. * Which is probably why we stopped fighting in this story, the new canine species was probably insisting that they fight too and we didn't want to watch them die.
