People always mistake Cortana’s words for that of the Spartans. Chief wasn’t the luckiest. That wasn’t his special skill. That’s what Cortana believed, not the Spartans. The Spartans followed Chief because he truly was the best of them. He wasn’t the fastest, strongest, or even smartest. But John was unstoppable. Even Fred admitted that Chief wasn’t the best at almost anything, but he was the Spartan’s soul. John can not be stopped. He is resolute, incorruptible. He will never stop, he will never question his beliefs, he will always do the right thing. He will never give up, no matter if he is the last to stand on the field, he will fight alone. You can not break his resolve, he will fight to protect humanity, and to do the right thing, no matter the cost.

According to the books there was a stronger Spartan named Soren-066 who was deformed due to the muscle growth augmentations affecting his body disproportionately so he was cut from the program and became a desk-worker. Fed up with that life he went AWOL and the UNSC tried to kill him. He was injured and last seen escaping into the forest on Reach I think? No updates after that. He was considered to be the strongest of the Spartans though, based on sheer strength alone. His dexterity and maneuverability suffered though. Edit: He was also the sole volunteer of the Spartan-II program.

Yep. Remember reading The Fall of Reach novel. It was a good read. I remember John, Sam and Kelly on that mission. Sam took the plasma round in the chest which went through his mjolnir armor meaning he wouldn’t have a seal to be able to go out in space to escape. This is before their armor had the shielding around it which is put on later. Sam stays behind and John and Kelly move forward. I also remember a part of the book when the covenant land on reach and deploy troops and the marines are trying their best to fight back but are overwhelmed and then a team of Spartans show up and one of the marine says “Sir what are you going to do?” Spartan replies “Were going to kill them all”

The Master Chief had the most drive to win compared to the other Spartans, like when he was kid, he was at the top of the hill while keeping the other kids down whenever they played king on the hill. Or maybe during his initial training to be a Spartan, he was the first to the rope but because he left his team behind he still lost so he took that as a lesson to ensure his team would win while keeping the other teams from reaching the rope before his did. I know it’s established in the lore he was luckiest out of the other Spartans but I think there were more to Chief’s survival than just luck.

Soren-066 was actually the physically strongest SPARTAN-II but he was partially crippled by the augmentation process and was never allowed to see combat and was largely isolated from the rest of his peers. He was placed behind a computer for years and felt alone and underutilized while his old friends were going off becoming war heroes, which led to his feelings towards the UNSC to sour and he began to sympathize with the insurrectionists. This led to him and a co-conspirator to defect and attempt to steal and deliver classified materials to the insurrection but they were shot out of orbit before leaving the planet. While the crashed longsword and his partners deceased body were found, the body of Soren-066 never was and Halsey has had him listed as MIA.

Spartan 3 program was right after 2, during the war. They have alot of stories about them going on suicide missions during the war. To add actually Sam 034 was indeed the strongest when it came to physical strength which is why he bore the CQB armor, but as for speed and reaction they were as equals and why they were teamed up to be blue team with Kelly 087 who was ranked as the fastest Spartan of the program they were the original blue team. Chief was a natural born leader and extremely lucky his only equal who can replace chief would be Fred 104 which is stated he an exact copy of chief as a Spartan but without the luck. Which is why he was in charge of blue team in chiefs absence on installation 04.
