you know what. the best thing of this video, of course, Robben! but other than that, it's the 'live' guitar sound not some kind of 'recorded' sound from the mic. i think that is more true, or reality thing for the people behind the screen like me now. thank you so much!

This stood out to me, loosely paraphrased: In Blues guitar you have so many individual voices, the most out there. More than jazz where maybe there are 5 or so? More than that chugga chugga stuff for sure. It seems very true to me.

I think Robben is just a natural, not big on theory, not always accurate but it doesn't matter, he's got an ear and natural talent, just my opinion.

I have to disagree with Robben (my apologies, if I've got him wrong here...) that there aren't almost any guitar players who are playing (I guess: electric and more or less „charged“) Blues and sort of taking it further by means of (advanced) knowledge of musical theory plus the ability to put it into their actual playing: just look at players like Scott Henderson (who's been doing it for decades now) and - more recently - Josh Smith or Oz Noy. And these 3 won't by no means be the only ones you'll find if you take a closer look around.

Agreed, I feel like Robben can be in his own world sometimes which can explain his lack of collaboaration or connection to some of those guys you mentioned. I've met people who feel very unique and special (verging on being a know it all) but they become very uncomfortable when comfronted with people as good or better than they are.

True. However, he mentioned he listens mostly to jazz music and sax players. So he can be not aware of all these great guitar players you mentioned.... But - I mean, really - is it possible to not know Scott Henderson? The other thing is Robben sounds like nobody else. He is definitely not under an influence of any contemporary guitar player. But many are under his influence. Me including. :)

He’s rooted in the 60s which is cool but I think he is missing out on many excellent players. Disagree that blues guitar is the most unique guitar sound. So many people are still copying Albert King.

Because it´s a master class and it is not a groupal therapy. You hear what a legend says, you take mental or written notes and you practice later at home. Put attention in what he says and plays is much more important than playing the same in front of him.
