In this video, we're going to be discussing the Master Production Schedule (MPS), which is a tool used in Operations Management to manage production schedules. We're also going to be discussing the planning process, which is a vital step in using the MPS.
The Master Production Schedule (MPS) is a crucial component of the Materials Requirements Planning (MRP) system. It is a detailed plan that outlines the production schedule for a specific product or product line, based on the demand forecast, production capacity, and inventory levels.
The MPS specifies the quantity and timing of production for each finished product, broken down into specific time periods, typically weekly or monthly. It takes into account the availability of raw materials, production resources, and other constraints such as labor, machinery, and lead times.
The MPS serves as a blueprint for the entire production process and is used by various departments such as manufacturing, purchasing, and logistics to plan their activities and coordinate their efforts. It helps to ensure that the production schedule is aligned with customer demand, and that the necessary resources are available to meet that demand.
Overall, the MPS provides a detailed and comprehensive overview of the production plan, which enables the organization to plan, execute, and monitor the production process effectively.
By the end of this video, you'll have a better understanding of the MPS and the planning process, and you'll be able to use them to manage your production schedule more effectively. Thanks for watching!

The example at 8:16 the production planning on the second table is not aligned with the first one. It seems reflecting the customer orders but not the the scheduled production

Thanks. That was the intent with this video; to reflect customer orders only. The MPS can look very different based on the organization and the products involved. Good call out though.

Brilliant. Thank you so much. I have a question though, in some other videos the available to promise row is not included. They have the others though. Can this cause any issues?

Thanks, Analise. To answer your question, ATP should only be included in finished goods inventory. Raw materials should not have ATP because the company will use that inventory in production and will not sell it directly to customers. It also depends on the company and if they choose to use ATP as an inventory perimeter in their inventory management system. As long as they are consistent, it shouldn't be a problem, but having it in on place and not another it possible could cause issues. I hope this helps.

Question, how is the MPS considered short term?
@drdhaywood
@drdhaywood Жыл бұрын
The MPS will vary based on the organization and the products they produce. The time bucket on the MPS can be very short (hours, days, or weeks). This is why it is considered short term. Hope this helps.

I feel this is not explained clearly. As I don't see where have you use dependent and independent. Where have you used outputs from aggregate planning in master production schedule.
