Before Super, I thought Tein was more powerful. He has more feats and everytime power levels were known for both of thme his was highing, and he was a rival for Goku before Piccolo showed up. What I love about Goku's training not only was he getting stronger and faster, Roshi was teaching the boy value in work ethic and some basic school lessons. He wasn't just training a student how to fight, he was raising and teaching a boy how to live.

The fact that this exchange made goku the way he is, in terms of discipline and training, brings a tear to my eye. He went beyond whatever league gohan was in(later in life), but goku’s strength is how he views grandpa gohan. That is the aspect of goku I love about. Even to self improve in battle, he holds a shrine to the people he truly loves. And this is where it mainly stems. He’s the embodiment of selfless, n that’s what I always enjoy about when I rewatch the dragon ball series.

This scene is so freaking important. Probably one of the most important moments in the whole franchise. What you're watching right here is Goku's character being defined. This was the speech that ignited his love for training. Before this point he wasn't really into it. Just look at him asking if he could use the nimbus( trying to skip the hard work and only caring about getting stronger ). This is SO important. After this speech he never stopped challenging himself with new training methods( the gravity chamber was his idea, keeping transformed in Super Saiyan all the time was his idea, paying Hit to go after his life was his idea ) and he enjoys every single second.

Fire Hawk Motivation may be a great part of training, but no matter how motivated Krillin could have been it is nigh impossible for a Human to keep up strength levels of a Saiyan. even if Krillin was granted a mass strength boost from Shenron, he would still have to keep training to try and keep up with the Saiyans. Also, Humans have a specific limit to each of our potential strength or as it is called, a "Limiter". Saiyans seem to have less of a limiter or no limiter at all and so their strength rises much easier and faster than a Humans.
