Just finished a frustrating night of printing via Lightroom (well at least attempting to print). And then I stumbled onto this. Like so many have said before, without a doubt the best tutorial on Lightroom printing on youtube. Well done Robert and B&H. Thank you saving my sanity.

Most excellent -- I have watched a number of tutorials on the print module, and this is the best. (Also, I enjoyed saying hello at Photo Plus, earlier this month). Thank you for your skill and commitment to education.

You really explain things so well! I was wondering as someone with very little printing experience... At minute 18 I noticed that the softproof still didn't look like it did but you stopped editing. Why didn't you adjust the black point to give the shadows under the rocks back that deep black that the original had?

Hi. This is the best tutorial about the print module in Lightroom. I have a Canon MG7150 and I have problems in developing the photo in soft proofing. In normal view everything looks ok but in soft proofing the color are exagerated (I am using the right paper profile) Lightroom is clipping like overexposed areas.

Not trying to pick apart an excellent tutorial, but one more correction. At 56:00 he shows how to set up the single image/contact sheet to print multiple copies of the same image per page, then he says that if you want to print different images on the same page you need to go to the Custom Package. That's not true. I do prefer the Custom Package as you have more control over layout and you can do image overlays, etc. but in the Single Image/Contact Sheet if you uncheck 'One Image Per Page' then LR will put different images in each of the cells you have created. If you have five images and six cells, then LR will fill five of the cells with images and leave the sixth cell blank. NB: In the bottom toolbar there's an option to use 'All', 'Selected' or 'Flagged' images. Mike.

Great program - I watched it twice, once before I had my printer, and again afterwards. I would like more info on monitor calibration and settings, but I will look for that elsewhere. Thanks.

Excellent video, but I wanted to add one correction. At 38:02 he's talking about watermarks and he said that watermarks aren't as useful as identity plates because watermarks can only be text. That's not true. Like Identity plates, watermarks can be text or graphics. Watermarks also offer more placement options, and more specific placement options than identity plates. HOWEVER, while identity plates can be 'per image' or one per page (where there are multiple images on a page), watermarks can only be set on each image. Mike.

Question regarding the "print resolution" check box.... In other tutorials I've watched on Lightroom, they have stated that if you leave print resolution "un-checked", the "Printer Settings" (within Lightroom) that you choose, will determine the print resolution. In "this" tutorial, Robert Rodriguez states, if "print resolution" is un-checked, Lightroom will use the "native" resolution of the original image. I'm using a Canon Pixima Pro-10 printer, which has a 4800 x 2400 dpi max resolution. What do I do, when I want the maximum resolution for any given print, that my printer is capable of printing?

Thank you for this! Question, last night I had 5x7 paper in the photo tray of my HP printer, set up LR for a 5x7 print and my printer kept giving me an error about size and size of paper. Do you have any idea what was going on? I finally had to print it at like 6point something by 4 point something.

thank you for an excellent presentation. I have problem , which could have a simple solution but I am unable to find it. when I am trying to create a triptych in single image/contact sheet, light room is not letting me add the virtual copies to 2nd and 3rd cells, even if they are virtual copies. it is letting me repeat one photo per page. I am using LR6.

if doing editing in general, then go to soft proofing with a virtual copy, explain the objective..are we just changing brightness, sharpness in soft proof, in general..possibly color balance? if doing all the hard work up to soft proof, then decided to do a print for that image, is that the process
@BandH9 жыл бұрын
+Brad Cherson Soft-proofing is the capability to preview in how onscreen photos appear when printed, and optimize them for a particular output device. With Soft Proofing enabled, the first time that you make a change to your image, a dialog appears asking if you want to ?Create virtual copy for soft proofing?? If you choose ?Create Proof Copy?, Lightroom automatically creates a virtual copy allowing you to preserve your previous settings in the master file, and create a new version with adjustments to the specific soft proofing options that you choose. If you choose ?Make this the Proof? Lightroom will make the changes on the master file. Because everything that you do in Lightroom is nondestructive, if you ever choose ?Make this the Proof? and then want to undo the changes, in the Develop Module, select Setting > Proof and disable it. can you batch print with a group of photos; 2 photos on 1 page throughout the batch, but 1 photo stays frozen throughout the batch? or do i have to manually replace each photo before i print?
@BandH9 жыл бұрын
+Mark Waite In LR's Print Module, choose "Custom Package templates" which allows you to print one or more photos, in any configuration of sizes, on a page, and allows multiple page layouts.

Great tutorial! Anyone knows how to free a photo that's in a cell? To clarify, when Robert was making the triptych he was able to move the pics left or right, but the vertical size was filled. I need to free the pics both horizontally and vertically to align objects shot from different positions. Cheers

@BandH9 жыл бұрын
Psysiu Malutki Once the image is in the cell that you've created, you are unable to increase its full size to extend larger than the cell's borders. You can only extend out horizontally, as long as the vertical size does not expand pass the cell's. You do not have the option to extend the image's overall size that will allow you to move the image around both horizontally and vertically within the cell, or zoom in or out. askbh@bandh.com

I have Lightroom 5.6 connected to a Canon PixmaPro 100, when i go to print settings, the dialogue box opens however the printer settings tab isn't there, I realise i am probably not doing something correctly, any help would be appreciated.
@BandH10 жыл бұрын
This sounds more like a printer issue then a Lightroom 5 issue. I would recommend checking to make sure you have installed the latest driver that is compatible with your operating system. If you are still having issues, please contact Canon for technical support. ask@bandh.com

If I'm going to export as a jpeg, why shoot in RAW to begin with? Also if I have the picture ready to print in RAW , why make a proof where it seems like I have to recreated what I already have? I just want to know how to print a picture 8x10 or 5x7 from a RAW format after I have made the adjustments I want.

hope you got an answer to your question. all i know is it is always better to have m,ore "information" when the foto is captured then adjusted & manipulated BEFORE the final draw-down into a jpg image. your mot playing with point&shoot cameras, your probably playing in high-end 18-20+megapixel territory. your images a big, full of information. editing in lightroom, your in big picture territoery. good luck, you should be talking to professionals in commercial photography. good luck.
