First off thank you for taking time out to record your training session a lot of important concepts are discussed and many people do benefit from the topics you share. One point of clarification that I would like to point out you mentioned a few times that was not technically accurate, Although it is minor in relation to the information you are presenting today it is an important concept that should not be overlooked. When measuring voltage drop with our DVOM we are measuring that device or conductor in parallel with that circuit and NOT in series since it is taken with perspective from the point of the metering device, the DVOM. If we place the positive lead on one side of the load and the negative on the other side of the load, that meter is measuring parallel to that circuit since current is flowing through the circuit irrespective of whether our meter is connected or not. Given that the meter is parallel to the circuit, if one of the leads were to break contact the only adverse result would be that the meter would no longer display what is occurring within the circuit. The only time we are measuring in series with a loaded circuit is if we are measuring amperage using our test leads then our meter must be part of the circuit as with a parasitic draw test on a battery. In this case the current is actually flowing through our meter which is physically in series with the circuit. If our leads were to be removed from the terminal or battery clamp, not only would we not be able to display the measurement, the circuit itself would be open and no longer functioning. This is not the case when we measure voltage which is measured in parallel to the circuit or device. I understand it is mostly semantics for the lecture on passing the ASE A6 but it is a fundamental concept that is important for a technician to fully comprehend. Although, with the use of modern day amp clamp(s), having to measure amperage in series is not as critical as it once was. But it is important to only ever clamp on (1) wire at a time if you want an accurate measurement. Thank you again for taking the time to present this material to all those searching for resource material to help take the ASE A6 Electrical and Electronics Test. Thank you for what you do and keep rocking those classes.
@MasterAutomotiveTraining2 жыл бұрын
Yup, I caught that after the fact, that was my mistake. Only time a meter is in series is with a amperage test, also moving lead to A port. Thanks for watching.

That intro funk! I was confused at 1:08:14 . Since the voltage hasn't been consumed wouldn't that voltage reading be ok? If the red test lead was moved after the headlight that should show 0v?

Great question! It’s kind of hard to see but the source voltage is 12v, like you said we should see source voltage before the load. Since they show 8v this means you have a 4v voltage drop somewhere from the source to that load. Did that make sense?

Q 36:41 and 36:42 the screen says 1 volt as the answer as opposed to the correct answer of 12 v as source.??? Shouldn't the answer to problem #6. be 3 volts which when it's all added up, give us source voltage which is 12v and not 1 volt for this resistor??? The answer for the 2nd resistor, I believe should've been 3 ohms of resistance! Please correct me if I am wrong! Great, Great Videos!!! I subscribe.
@MasterAutomotiveTraining2 жыл бұрын
Hey buddy, 36:41 it is 12 the power point got corrupted you can see the 2 in between It and R1. For #6 it is a series circuit so yes we do need to add them up if we had the values. Since we are solving for the unkown we use Ohms law, 3 amps into 12 volts gives us 4 ohms. Because of this R1 is 3 ohms which means R2 must be 1 ohm. Rt would be 4ohms. Did that make sense? Thank you for subscribing.

@1:08:24, I would disagree with what you said Oscar. With switch closed and power on, if you probe with one lead before load and one lead on chassis ground you're going to measure source voltage (12V or very close to it), not 0V like you said. If that red probe in the slide was directly after the load, then you would measure 0V (or no more than 0.2V), and what you said would be correct
