The #1 largest error the manufacturers and industry have done is to call the FUEL ADJUSTMENT , the FUEL TRIM. TRIM is the WRONG word to use. When I trim something I make it smaller, never bigger. No wonder people are confused !

@MasterAutomotiveTraining that was the old days ! That is worse !! Lol ! How about long term fuel adjustment and short term fuel adjustment, or long term addition , long term subtraction, short term addition , or short term subtraction. They want to make it difficult ,but it is not !

Does this work for speed density systems?
@MasterAutomotiveTraining2 күн бұрын
Sure does, the only thing that changes is the MAP instead of a MAF.
@TheRallyCoop2 күн бұрын
@ thanks for the reply, I was referring to the effects a vacuum leak has on the fuel trim of a speed density system. I thought the vacuum leak does not change the fuel trim.

@@MasterAutomotiveTraining thanks again. I am not a mechanic, but I learn a lot from knowledgeable people like yourself. Cars that use a MAF meter
@TheRallyCoop2 күн бұрын
MAF cars will not account for pirate air resulting in an imbalance in the air fuel ratio. The imbalance is detected by the oxygen sensor, and the PCM compensates by adjusting the fuel trim. MAP cars calculate air flow by measuring the pressure in the intake manifold, therefore all vacuum leaks are detected and compensated for immediately upon creation of the leak. The mixture never goes lean, the oxygen sensor never reads lean and the fuel trim is not used to compensate. It is as if the throttle plate opened more, which increases the idle. If the leak is large enough, the PCM will close the throttle to maintain the correct RPM. I have seen many KZbin videos on fuel trim, but no one talks about MAF vs MAP. Most new cars are turbo charged, meaning they use a MAP, meaning fuel trim can no longer be used for vacuum leaks. If your research proves any of this to be correct, maybe you would consider making a video on the limitations of using fuel trim to diagnose vacuum leaks. Thanks aging for taking the time to read my post. Looking forward to more great videos from you!

@7:00 just to verify the information.... isn't it the voltage reading on an A/F backwards from an oxygen sensor, 3.2v should be lean? Am I correct?
@MasterAutomotiveTraining4 күн бұрын
On this Toyota, the higher the voltage the leaner it is and the lower the voltage the richer it is. This is one reason, AFRs are much easier to understand, as lambda follows the same rule and so does the Mode $06 AFR/HO2 mA test.
@crasher883 күн бұрын
easiest way to remember is A/F sensors are opposite of O2 sensors. High is lean while low is rich. the problem is for most manufactures they don't post what normal is suppose to be. That only comes from experience.

Hi Man, I had misfire issue in my Toyota corolla 2008,I took it to the mechanics and he said you need to change coil in C3, but they issue was still there and then I changed two more. Few days later check light turned on and we changed the pre cat oxygen sensor. The mechanic stripped out the oxygen sensor and then we had a bit of issue but a thread guy fixed it (code was p0420). After a driving for a while the engine light is still there and code is 0420. I’m wondering is this a cat issue or something else what do you suggest? the mechanics are just ripping money here and just replacing parts

I am no mechanic, but I’m willing to work on my car. So when you said that oil consumption leads to catalytic converter failure. Well, I hope I can fix my car hopefully avoid changing the catalytic converter. Thank you for the video. It was very insightful informative and you know what you’re talking about. I appreciate that. Your video was made well. Easy to understand & provided detailed info. However. I live in NV & nobody charges $50 for a smog check. The average is $20 to $25 per inspection. How would that breakdown? I don't know how to average all the fees. My son would run the smog station himself. I was thinking about taking the course to get licensed/certified to help him. The atea I've located as a good place to put a station has high traffic so he would probably have pretty good business. Anyway, I was interested in the breakdown using your computations but at $20 to $25 per smog. Thank you for your willingness to assist.

@MasterAutomotiveTraining19 күн бұрын
Based on your fuel trims the vehicle is running rich and the PCM is trying to reduce the fuel thats why you have a negative fuel trim. You'd need to run tests to determine what is causing the rich condition.

@MasterAutomotiveTraining20 күн бұрын
The green light simply means that it ran the test on the CAT system. Even if it fails it will still show complete. You'd need to look at Mode $06 to determine if infact you need a new CAT.

Good video, but please tone it down or at least define the words you are using and you will get a lot more audience following what you are saying. For example, in your first sentence you use the word "PID" and unless I go elsewhere to look that up I am confused for the remaining 11 minutes of the video. Picoscope? Yes, I got it that "PID" is also in the title, but it's just an example.
@MasterAutomotiveTraining20 күн бұрын
PID is Parameter Identification Data (live data). I am probably one of the most toned down instructors on YT, I can say that my videos are made for technicians and as such I use terminology that is known to the industry. If you are a DIYer, thats possibly where the confusion comes in. I also mention live data in the description referring to PIDs. Hope info was useful besides the terminology confusion.
