Dear Mr Sonne, your videos are so wonderful! I'm an adult student of the violin. Whatever I play sounds so colorless and never the music I hear in my mind, I sing in my mind. With the things you teach in your videos, I start to have some hope I'll one day play something that sounds at least remotely closer to what my mind is playing, which is beautiful. Thank you so much. People like you and Mr Todd Ehle make this world a better place. A beautiful place.

If 36 begins with a down bow, how about a slur from g-bb to end up with a down bow on 37; and what bowing in 39 to end up with a down bow on 40? Or get the bow reversed in the measures preceding 39?

I have attained a level of expert amateurishness with Thais, progressing enough to have become lazy with it and learning a lot in the process-like continuous vibrato (of a sort). I joined Violin Lab and saw that you have some videos on it Roy-it was a happy surprise to see your happy face! I know this is a massive ask (as we say down here where we hang round upside down like bats) but is there any chance you could do Vivaldi-Summer-Allegro Non Molto...?

I’m on suzuki book 5. I can climb positions but I have so much trouble with my intonation. I stopped taking lessons, but I want to learn pieces like this. Are there any steps to learning a piece? Should I look up a certain book for scales and arpeggios of the piece’s key? Can I do anything to solidify my intonation? Also I really have trouble figuring out when to shift to a higher or lower position. Any answers would be much appreciated. Thank you :(

Why do most people play the note first and then vibrato a second or two later?
@roysonne10 ай бұрын
Most teachers (but not me) will say you're supposed to start the vibrato right at the beginning of the note. But it gives some added security of both hands if you can establish the tone and the finger placement first without vibrato.
@linda__458710 ай бұрын
Thanks so much for answering that for me.

Mr. Sonne What is the starting tempo that you are using and if you know what is the metronome setting used on music-1 cd? (As I found the Music Minus One cd but no accompanying notes on the music)
@roysonne9 жыл бұрын
Hi Ray. Delighted to see you here. I would experiment in the range of 50-60 to the quarter note. Some people take it even slower but then it's very hard to keep it alive. I don't have the MM-1 CD. You can just turn it on and try to fit your metronome with it. You should be able to find the tempo within about 1 or 2 clicks per minute that way
@raymonath8 жыл бұрын

+Raymond Monath and is it ok to slur d#-bf#-d# in 15

@roysonne8 жыл бұрын
