My guess having worked half my life in a foundry, is that the push pins in the die need some work, and that is how the parts are stacked when coming out of the die and being cooled,(if everything else is correct?), have the most to do with the waviness. The operator will have some type of gauge to check flatless, the QC will test a couple during their shift(general spot check) and one during the shift that he will perform a more strenuous and complex series of tests. There are a lot of measurements, so I don't think there would be more than one extensive test per shift. If the operator runs the machine too fast, that would cause excessive heat and warpage because the parting spray/lube, is evaporating because of the heat, and the die pins that push the casting away from the die, are sticking. The machine timings are set by engineering and a master operator, but once in production, operators will play with the timings to produce more parts and the quality will suffer. You can really tell by the t-grooves of the tabletop. There is more heat built up in that area and the parts are sticking to the die causing warping, and material breakout. Another thing is "how good is the quality of the ALUMINUM? Poor quality will lead to hot spots, hard spots, and slugs/burs in the castings. Also the furness tender not slagging off the aluminum will cause brittle and poor forming of the casting. Aluminum temps have to be tightly monitored and should not fall or rise above and below a certain temperature, otherwise that will cause all the problems stated above. I would personally look for a tablesaw that has its surfaces machined after being formed(obviously) and before assemble. Non machined casted parts used to all be machined pryor to assembly, there's just too much variance in the casting process. Good companies still do this, but you pay more. Take care Mike, see ya next week.

Check my channel, I have reviews on all these saws and a comparison vid between the Dewalt and the Skil. Best budget and most compact is the Skil. The Dewalt is the best on the list but almost twice the price. The Masterforce vid I'll have for you next week. My Kobalt was pretty bad and not recommended. Good luck Bobby and thanks for watching!

I own this saw and it’s a good saw. I love the portability of it. Does everything I need as a homeowner and DIYer. It is by no means a top end cabinet saw, but you can still make furniture and projects on it with ease. I can’t say if it would be a good saw for a contractor but i wouldn’t be afraid to use it as such. Plus it can take a dado stack, which Menards/Masterforce sells. Also Masterforce has a terrific warranty, 3 years and in store change out. I look forward to seeing your reviews.

I've been waiting for your review on this saw. I'm really disappointed with the variation across the surface of the aluminum table but I'll still watch your full review to support what you do. Looks like I have to decide between the DeWalt and the Skill worm drive saw. Thanks for putting out excellent and very thorough content!
@ProjectsForAllReviews3 ай бұрын
Yep I was hoping for a better result also. In reality I don't do many projects where a .01 difference in table flatness would make any difference at all in the finished product. I could see where it may matter to the hobbyist woodworker. Thanks for watching!
@jdbigsur55032 ай бұрын
I agree. I do very little carpentry work, mostly woodworking. I’m past the hobbyist stage but no where near professional. I really need a cabinet saw but I just don’t have the space. I’ve been leaning toward the DeWalt but I was waiting for you to review the cheaper options that have the rack and pinion fence just to see if there was a viable cheaper option. Your reviews have really helped solidify my decision, keep up the awesome work. Would love to see you review the Masterforce plunge router. It looks almost identical to the Skil.

Mike, here we go! Always exciting to be introduced to a new (to me) product. Good start. I can only say that it seems good, so far, for the price point. The flatness of the table is really not a problem because, after all, it is a job site saw. None of us are going to use this to make fine furniture. Seems to me that if someone were starting out, on a budget, they should give this a serious look. We'll see what happens in the performance video. I suspect it will do a fine job. Hey, it's no worse that the Craftsmen job site saw I started out on in the age of dinosaurs; which, by the way, is still operational at my son-in-laws house (though he doesn't really know how to use it). As always, super! Next spring, you should be the new voice of the Cubbies.
@ProjectsForAllReviews3 ай бұрын
I'll admit I'm a little impressed with this one. At $30 more than the Kobalt or $75 more than the Skil I think you're getting a fair deal with this one. Bosch gets $60 for they're add on outfeed support but here its included and dare I say this one is a little better design with 2 locking knobs. I'll be spending the rest of the day filming this one so should have a conclusion next week. I like beer as much as Harry Caray did so maybe I have a chance down in Wrigleyville, maybe Ill shoot a resume over...

I purchased a Maximum saw. It’s a Canadian Tire house brand. Looks like a nearly identical unit except for a different stand. Mine is also very quiet. That is due mainly to the fact that it runs at 3100 rpm.

Never seen that Maximum saw! Yes it looks like another cousin to the Masterforce and Kobalt. Google Hercules, Harbor Freight table saw and check out the power switch on that one. should look familiar to you. The Hercules has the same throat plate and latch design as these, I was starting to wonder if it's also related to these. The Maximum is cool with its DeWALT style stand! Great video on an interesting table saw. There are no Menard’s out here in California (or anywhere in the west that I know of) so this would not be for me but fun to watch! Thanks

I recently learned Menard's isn't a national chain and occupies only a dozen or so states in the midwest. Sometimes we live in our own little bubbles. Is there a west coast equivalent to Menard's? Thanks for watching!

@@ProjectsForAllReviews No there is not - Just Lowe’s and HD really. A few ACE’s. I went into a Menards when we in Galesburg checking out Knox College so I did see one. Kind of strange how they had a grocery store inside as well! I’m leaning more about the Chicago area since my kid starts at Columbia Art School and we will be out there in a week to get them settled in. It will be interesting to see how they handle the winter coming from Southern California! A question since I you know that area: We know the Target by all the art colleges (State St.) will be cleaned out, so is there a nearby area right outside of the city where there is a good shopping area with Target, etc? We will take a train or Uber. Thanks!

So I might not be the best person to advise because I’m not familiar with areas west or south and there may be a good option in those areas. If it was me though I’d take I90 west to Fullerton. I believe that’s Bucktown. There’s a ton of shopping over there Target, HD, Menards, Kohls best computer store in Chicago, Microcenter and a lot more. Also you can look like you know what your doing and take the fam to Pequods pizza which just over the river. Clybourn at Webster. Rated best pizza in the country recently on yelp and my favorite for decades. Good luck and email me if you have more questions.

With all these mitre gauges being absolute dumpster fires, what do you run on yours? That’s one gap I haven’t filled in just yet.
@ProjectsForAllReviewsАй бұрын
Honestly, I use the big metal basic gauge that came with my Delta 36725-T2 table saw. I get accuracy good enough for around the house. That said I’ve been meaning to order myself an Incra v120 gauge for literally years. Now that the subject came up again maybe I’ll remember to order one. Should be solid for less than $100. What do you have your eye on?
@thefrankperspective4247Ай бұрын
@@ProjectsForAllReviews - also looking at Incra. I don’t need 5 bajillion positive stops, so I’ll be pricing out based on durability and length of the fence more than anything. Powertec is also in the running if there is any worthwhile saving to be had (their track saw tracks have been decent enough for me at least)

That's a great vid Lee! You're great on camera! You could make quite an impressive KZbin channel out of that shop. I linked your video in the description of this vid. I don't talk about it often but I blew my CNC plasma table and lathe budget on the video and studio equipment to make this channel. I had a list of progressively larger projects with the ultimate goal of scratch building a reasonable clone of a 48 Panhead. I did purchase a Miller 220 ac/dc welder that's in the background of some of my vids. All the money this channel makes gets reinvested back into it but one day the channel will pay me back. 😁
