You did this very well, all the important points covered and explained. As a cabinetmaker for 40+ years, I have seen and used most types of saws from massive 12" production units to drag to the jobsite and hope you get lucky. This one would be welcome anywhere good work is being done. It would be really helpful if you did a demo of the slightly less used but very necessary operations such as angled cuts, dado setups and mitre guage and very thin piece. Also, both for ease and safety, show how to build a simple, easily attached and removed outfeed support platform. Thanks for your efforts to bring pro level results to the "prosumer".

I've got this table saw. And it's a damn good saw. It struggles past the 1 inch thick stuff. I installed a DeWalt construction 60 tooth blade on mine. It really woke up the saw. Also on the wide rips if you have the fence to the left, flip the guard piece down and it supports the piece you are cutting. I had the DeWalt jobsite saw and I like this one better.

Watched a couple of videos on this saw, I am not a professional wood worker but am a diy person who has built many items, this saw impressed me enough to purchase this saw. Wanted the rack and pinion fence, wanted a stand, wanted simple adjustments, I’m 77 years young so wanted something that would not be to heavy. Prior to this purchase I would have to return home to rip long cuts now I can use this saw. Just a note I have a Dewalt miter saw and stand that I love. Great video

I love the rack and pinion fence though the plastic gears may not hold up over time and a lot of use. For a DIYer who is looking for accuracy and may only do a few projects a year, I think there is a lot of value in this saw, at the price point. Particularly with the integral stand, which adds $40 - $50 dollars in value vs. a simple aftermarket stand. Take that savings and reinvest it in a higher quality blade, and this could be a really nice saw.

@vcg Vince.....Just unboxed and set mine up. Thank you for the informative review. 90 out of the box. Made a couple test cuts, and very impressed with the power, accuracy of cut (did some rip 45's through 2" for a beefy French cleat, had a razors edge on the piece of wood) So far very happy, besides scratches on the table (amazon). But so far as owning it for about an hour I am very happy with your recommendation. Thanks VCG

It comes shipped one slot lower than you need it. This video is super great think a few people missed this . It sold me on this saw. Plus my last skil is working great after 15 years but my rip fence failed and parts are no longer available. Seems you need a rip fence to make a rip fence. It’s not just the piece will make the machine cost more by making it metal, it’s that process of mass machining and metal pricing. So it will more than double the cost. Plastic is pretty durable and a lot cheaper to replace vs metal. Great review overall.

As a remodeling contractor I have a ton of pro grade tools. I settled on Dewalt table saws. It's hard to beat Dewalts rack and pinion fence setup. It's very accurate. The only Skil tool to make the "cut" through the years is a Skilsaw Mag 77. My van was broken into and I had several thousand dollars in tools stolen along with my beloved Dewalt table saw. I'm happy to see that now Skilsaw has a worm drive table saw with the rack and pinion fence, although not this model. It might be the perfect replacement.

I've had this Skil saw sitting in my house for a week. My first tablesaw and I'm terrified to use it lol. Your video is probably the first I've seen where I feel more confident. Others casually rip through wood, no guard on, like it's not a big deal - and I KNOW it is. You've made it a point to keep yours on and show how you're ripping with it on. Granted, maybe a 4x4 or a very thin piece might need it off (?), but you then made sure to say the riving(sp?) knife should stay on if we know what's good for us. I appreciate this approach you're conveying - it's not overly fear-inducing, but also not callous to the consequences. And also, Philly Philly! at least I assume you're from Philly. Your accent made me wonder, and then your ending solidified my assumption.

I like the built in stand, the two items I see as an issue is the plastic gears, and the dado width it can handle. The specs say 5/8”, so it cannot handle a dado the width of a 1x board. You would have to do two passes. Most other saws are at least 3/4”, Other than that, the price is great, and it appears stable. I wish the non-cabinet saws were gear driven for setting the angle of the blade instead of moving the tilt by hand.

Bought this saw, and set it up quickly. Fairly accurate out of the box. I bought a Diablo finish blade and installed it during the initial setup. I was using it for some Lifeproof flooring. The integrated stand is awesome, the hinges are alittle stiff of the out of the box but not a issue. Only this is don’t like is the huge bulky guard, it should have a detention for you to flip it up out of the way instead of being forced to remove it. They should have a spot on the saw to store it when you pop it off instead of tossing it on the floor lol Thanks for the review and setup tips!

You really can't beat the features for the price category. R/P fence, 25" cut (halving sheet goods), integrated stand and a 10" blade. Lots of plastic, but its not $600. It leaves some budget "on the table" for additional blades, dado, etc etc. Its Baby's first table saw. People say its loud, but I can't hear them.
@MMWoodworking2 жыл бұрын
He has one of the most unique methods of feeding wood through a saw that I have ever seen. I bet he gets nasty bite on the last 1/2-3/4in of the piece as it hits the blade on the back while he moves from the back (pulls), or far right, behind the fence. You can hear it at the end of his cut. I guess it doesn't really matter if you plan to cross cut it to length afterwards, you can just chop off that part. Solid review.

I think the number one feature that would put it on a pro shopping list is the size and weight. 15" tall folded up and everything stores inside, plus it only weighs 51 pounds, so you don't need wheels and you don't need to have it on level ground with that adjustable leg. You could feasibly even toss it in the trunk of a sedan (which is a big deal to the guys who can't afford a truck). It looks like the plastic components may very well be less about cost saving, and more of a weight consideration, but I could always be wrong. Did you ever find out what those tapped holes were for? Possibly a plank support accessory?

You sound knowledgeable. Could this table be used to cut 1x4 strips from a 4x8 sheet of MDF? Thanks!
@jackpine4347 Жыл бұрын
@@MovieMakingMan Running large sheet goods through a small table saw is not advisable, unless you adequately support the workpiece on both ends and the side. The best way to get good cuts on large sheets is to use a track saw, and to adequately support the workpiece. The next best way would be to either purchase a saw guide like those made by Bora, Kreg and others, or make your own rip guide from straight boards. One other choice - stores like HD, Lowe's and Menards usually have panel saws for cutting down panels for customers, in the store, when you purchase your material. You usually get the first two cuts free, then you pay for the additional cuts.

Great video, but I would like a support to fold down and connect the legs, on a job site were all you have dirt & rocks I find portable saws tend to wobble or vibrate off the self installed levelers( pieces of wood, rocks you know the drill).I did install small angle iron with wing nuts around the base that would give me more surfaces to level my portable saw, but I just used it at a few sites with that configuration when needed but it’s just another thing to forget to put in the truck. Legs are fine for support that was really only complaint if it is one that I had otherwise great saw for the price, plastics gears haven’t had any problem with but like you I’m a “metal “guy in my tools as well my music. The dewalt DWE7491RS table saw is hands down the best portable 10 inch table saw. It's not even debatable! However.......this skill table saw seems to be their answer to the dewalt. This means this saw seems to do everything the dewalt does ,it just does it cheaper. Again Meaning the Skill because it uses a plethora of plastic parts probably won't last as long as the Dewalt but it is a hell of a lot cheaper and for a home owner who probably won't use that much it might be just fine! This is interesting 🤔. Thanks for the video!
