Wow, I had completely ignored this saw because of the battery power supply. I am a believer in corded products since I work out of a garage shop. Didn’t want to have to worry about several different charging systems. After watching multiple reviews over the more cost effective job site, and less room demanding, I was trying to make up my mind between a Dewalt and the red 10” skil saw for my upgrade. I have a much older 10” Skil saw that still serves me very well but was looking for the much better gear drive fence, and larger cut capacity. I believe your review has changed my mind and set me on course to buy this saw. Absolutely great reviews on your channel. I have watched many, with this being the one that has most altered my plans. Thank you so much for your in depth and accurate reviews! I am a disabled vet that for the last several years has done nothing but sit, eat and watch the boob tube. It dawned on me a couple of months ago that I could go back to woodworking to give my life more meaning and fulfillment. Thanks to this I am out of depression and happily dropped 56 of my 427 pounds so far. You and your compadres across you tube have been a large part of this and the development of my workshop area. Just wanted you to know how much of an impact you have on making a vets life much better! So again please accept my sincerest thanks!

I’ve had mine since they first came out and it still cuts like a champ. I never used the measuring scale and removed the optional fold down fence. You need to periodically check your dust collection port for wood slivers that can clog it and causes the blade to not lower all the way. No biggie there. The worm drive has never let me down and I’ve since made several nice jigs that fit my fence. It’s so portable and easy to store. I still really love this saw and along with a good Freud combo blade you can do some quality cutting with this bad boy. You will love it the more you use it.

I bought this saw recently. I had narrowed down my selection to this and the Dewalt 7491, and the safe choice would have been to get the Dewalt, to go with the rest of my yellow tools. However, based on your review of the 8-1/4 inch version and other research, I decided to go with this saw. I'm glad that I did. The saw's alignment was spot-on from the factory. Nothing needed to be adjusted. I feel like the accuracy is good enough to do fine furniture and cabinetry, although I'll be using it mostly for specialized framing work. I love that stand. It makes it really easy to get the saw in and out of the truck. I don't have the problem with the fence rails binding. I would be interested in seeing you figure out what the culprit is. Maybe something got bent in shipping. I haven't checked the ruler, as I've been in the habit for years of using the same tape measure to set up all the tools I use for any given job. However, I do have a few minor concerns and criticisms. 1) There was no instruction manual included with my saw. No biggie as it's downloadable from the Skil website, but what if they forgot something more important? 2) As you noted, it's odd that they didn't include washers for the saw-to-stand bolts. I added them. 3) I'm not wild about the plastic dust chute. What happens if a carbide tooth breaks off of your blade and gets thrown down into the chute? I am going to order a spare for safekeeping. 4) That channel in the fence helps make it super rigid, but I'm concerned that a splinter is going to get caught between it and the rear fence support. I might trim down a UHMW bar to fit in the channel. All in all, these are very minor concerns, and I would still choose this saw over the competition. As always, I really appreciate your tool reviews and especially the high-resolution close-ups. 👍

I don’t think you mentioned that the blade rises to 3 5/8 instead of 3 3/8 so it will rip a 4 x 4 in one pass. Extremely convenient. I’ve had mine for 4 years now. I’m very satisfied with the performance. However the wheel to raise the blade wore out a year ago and I use a visegrip now. Very inconvenient when you need an exact rise. Also there is no blade caddy. The 16 inch wheels are awesome on a jobsite or stairs.

Thanks for your video! Convinced me this was the saw for me and not the “yellow one”. I downsized due to space limitations from a 3 HP Delta Unisaw so I was a bit concerned about quality and power. You help me make the right choice. Just received my Skilsaw. It’s pretty nice. Tape measure is off 1/16” in 24” so will have to deal with that. Diving knife was way off and a pain to adjust like you mentioned. Rip fence was close but I got it adjusted to within 2-3 thousandths 👍🏻. I have a Worm drive Skilsaw circular saw that is well over 40 years old. We built a deck in the yard with it and it runs like a champ!!! No issues. So that performance, power and longevity is what I hope to get from this table saw!!! Thanks again

I have owned several Makita 8 and 10 “ table saws and always bought the Rousseau tables for them. I get at least 5-6 years of almost daily use from them. The complaint I have had is the plastic frame usually fails and the Rousseau tables adjustment and table boards( melamine) usually just wear out. This Skilsaw worm drive saw looks like a decent set up and even though I am now somewhat retired I think I will invest in one. The only problem I see is the outfeed side. I hate material falling off. I always build a solid outfeed table. It serves may purposes besides keeping the material off the ground…a workbench for one. Great thorough review, I’m subscribing.,

The side slot I use to mount stops when cross-cutting or feather boards. I wish the handle on the left side was even with the top of the table so it would help support wider sheet goods and/or cross-cutting sleds. It has been a good saw for me.

Another excellent review. Impressive tool, but I think the Dewalt 7491RS you reviewed would work best for me since I use the table saw almost exclusively for ripping 9/16" dadoes into 3/4" ply drawer side and front pieces which have all been made using various Festool equipment. I wish the DeWalt had the Skillsaw's excellent folding stand shown here, but the DeWalt version will have to suffice. No tight spots here. I checked my scale and it was pretty close out to 24-inches at 75° F. Since the saw is aluminum and my tape measure is steel, I imagine it could be off at high and low temperatures. I never had a scale before and am not used to using it. Wow! Grats on 9K subs, Mike. I presume the orange cat is now trustworthy? Great review on an almost amazing jobsite saw. It's pretty shocking that the measuring scale is off by that much, and compounds the error over its length. I agree it's totally unacceptable. One has to wonder how that got trough their QA, because any brand of Chervon tools are usually much better than that. Not a deal breaker for sure, and simple enough to fix, but I bet it has cost more than a few people a lot of money. It measures short which is bad. If it measured long the material could be re-cut. Cut short and you're screwed. I make it a habit to check all new tape measures for accuracy, and it's surprising how many are off by about 1/32" one way or the other. However, they are consistent the entire length of the tape. Not a big deal as long as you're aware of it when it really matters.

Your right and I didn’t realize I dropped the trustworthy part of that joke. Lol, nothing trustworthy about that cat! This is a really cool saw and very impressive. Shame about the small quality issues but fairly minor. I didn’t get into removing and fiddling with the rail because I was already past the 30 min mark and felt I was already pushing it. Thanks as always for watching!

Seems better then my porter cable i got 7 years ago, cant even run sheet goods on it without having it walk away from you. Oh the the safty blade guard flew off and hit me in the face when I turned it on, almost took out an eye.

I’ve never seen a blade guard fly off and hit someone! Not a good endorsement for a product. Probably time for a new saw! Thanks for watching!

*Doesn't come with a flat table. And this if fine when doing construction tasks, but if woodworking, all Jobsite saws are flawed this way. For instance, cutting smaller (barrow, or short) pieces, they can be off by several degrees due to the raised area around the threaded insert. Even the high end SawStop has this same issue. Niw, if you go back 10-12 years when jobsite saws had cast aluminum (not stamped aluminum on modern saws.) They gave you better cuts at a much lower price.

I have the Skil TS6307-00 10" portable table saw with the fold up legs....I honestly can't complain about that saw at all, sure its not 100% accurate, but its extremely close for what it is. Plenty of power for those times where you want a saw where you are working and don't want to try to drag the cabinet or contractor saw out of the shop. This 10" worm drive would be great...I think the worm drive would be better for thicker materials, and for hardwoods since I would think it would have more torque than the regular direct off the motor arbor type saws. Glad to see the longer arbor for a wider dado, but for a jobsite saw, I wouldn't expect too much....how often do people using a jobsite saw like this actually take the time to switch to a dado stack, or even carry one with them?
@ProjectsForAllReviews Жыл бұрын
I really love that TS Skil too William. I find myself using that dado stack much more than I thought I would when I bought it. It’s prob 4-5 years old now and been through wet treated wood multiple times. I’m surprised it’s still sharp enough to do that demo and should probably be replaced. For me the best advantage to the wormdrive besides the power is it’s size. Good height and large table, out feed extension is more useful than expected too. Glad the TS has worked well for you! Thanks for watching!

The measuring guide has been fixed, I recently purchased this saw and it is now accurate
@doofusmaguilacutee4998 Жыл бұрын
I've had mine for about 4 years now ( after my Dewalt suddenly burned up on a jobsite). Overall, it's a really good saw with a few not so great points. The best thing about this saw is the power. The worm drive motor is a beast. By far the most powerful jobsite saw I've used. The few things that I don't care for? When I'm not on a jobsite, I use it in my garage. The lack of an ability to add a quality outfeed table is a little disappointing. The factory accessory outfeed is garbage & the same design as my previous Dewalt. Rockler makes a removable outfeed table that is much better, but requires fabricating custom attachment brackets. Same goes for an infeed table. With the rack& pinion fence rails, there is no place to add an aftermarket infeed table which is needed if your ripping a full sheet of plywood. Also, adjusting the angle of the bevel accurately & precisely with a digital miter gauge on the blade is nearly impossible as the spring is too strong. It needs a fine adjustment knob or something. And my last "con" is the "track"(?) that slides when your raising or lowering the blade. It's not sealed, so after using it awhile, it traps sawdust which then clogs the track making it difficult to raise & lower the blade completely. It happens quite quickly if you cut alot of MDF like I do. Overall though, I do think it is a good saw & glad I bought it
@thomasclarke8220 Жыл бұрын
Are you able to get at that raise and lower "track" to clear it out?
@doofusmaguilacutee4998 Жыл бұрын
@@thomasclarke8220 Yes- you can get to it, but it's kind of a pain to do it. You either have to get on your hands & knees & reach up under the saw (tough on 64 yr. old knees) or flip the saw upside down. Also, the dust tends to stick to the track because of the lubrication on the track parts ( or maybe because of an electrostatic charge from the spinning blade (I'm not really sure on this)).

For your magnetic angle gauge, do you have a particular brand that you have found to be ‘better’ or is there really a difference.

Skil gives the dimensions of the little brother 8.25 inch saw on their web site but neglect that detail in their specification for 10 inch model. What are the dims for the saw (w/o the cart) for big brother ? thank thee :-)

Skill has always been a good name and product. Unfortunately today they are made in China not the USA like years ago. But then little really is today. This is why China will own us someday. But I digress. This along with other Skill tools are a great value for the money. I use several of the battery tools and have been quite happy for the money. No they are not DeWalt quality but then they aren’t twice or even more the price. Nice video young man 👍🏼👍🏼

Thank you, esp the young part! I didn't realize how much Bosch design was in this one until last weeks GTS15-10 review. I feel like this Skilsaw is a little bit worm drive Bosch and that's not really a bad thing. Thanks for watching!

Hi mike great video.!. I love how thorough you are in your review and i love your Delta saw. Would like you to compare the skill saw to that one, I wanted a delta saw but it would just kill my work space . I was wondering how much i will give up by purchasing a skill saw SPT99-11 over the Delta. thank you for the great video and any help would be great,

Hello Fruitman! We’re doing the Skilsaw vs DeWALT next but I’d be surprised if I don’t do the Delta eventually. If you haven’t seen the Delta vs DeWALT yet check out that vid. I’ll bet the Skilsaw comparo will have a similar result. Thanks for watching!

Think i could use this saw if i wanted to get into furniture builds, or cabinetry?
@ProjectsForAllReviews Жыл бұрын
Absolutely. There are concessions with job saws for that type of work though. A small amount of accuracy reduction, loud noise, smaller tables but from a strict can it be done standpoint, sure it can. Good luck and thanks for watching!

Interesting this is almost identical to Bosch's new gen table saws in both stand and saw construction. Seems even Bosch sold Skil many years ago there are still some major engineering sharing between the two.

It's very hard to believe the measuring tape is off by that much, or off at all. Not sure how that passed inspection unless inches mean different things to different folks. Crazy. Makes me wonder about the rest of the tolerances although from what you demonstrated in your video, it all seems pretty darn good! Better than my Dewalt 7491RS by quite a bit. This saw was actually my first choice when I was shopping for my very first table saw. I just couldn't justify the cost vs the Dewalt.

I know Dwayne I was shocked to find that ruler misprint! The DeWALT I tested wasn’t new out of the box so I can’t talk to it’s initial accuracy. Sounds like everyone wants a Skilsaw vs DeWALT vid so keep an eye out for that. Thanks for watching!

Hey sir my saw came with an extra ruler with it….be sure and check the box before throwing away really good. My saw was bought in 2010 though. And you could do a video on the mitre guides on a few popular brands and see which ones WIGGLE around the least too…..that’s what gripes my butt !!! For what you pay, I anyway, like it to be tight cuz that’s a tiny bit of accuracy on cross cuts…. I don’t do enough to make a sled, so I like the guide to be really tight….I’m thinking Dewalt wins the contest too on that, at least from what I’ve had my hands on….. I also have a question, I was using a dado blade setup and I have lost my stupid throat plate for the 10” skil table saw….I’d have to go look to find the model, but do you know anywhere right off I could look online to find one, I’ll check Skil but I’m afraid my saw has been discontinued by now!! If you know of any where let me know…..thx…..Paul.
@ProjectsForAllReviews Жыл бұрын
That’s crazy I hope I didn’t throw out a corrected ruler but I pitched the box after the video dropped. Check Amazon and Etsy for throat plate. That is usually where I find them. Thanks for watching Paul!
